[NEW BLOG] Infra structure, not top structure. In our blog this week we argue for the need to support the quality of housing delivered by informal supply chains through investment in infrastructure and services

The #FLISP housing subsidy in South Africa was recently rebranded to the 'Help me Buy a Home' programme. Unfortunately this 'facelift' didn't extend to fixing the recurring issues with its administration. This is the topic of the TSC's latest blog 👇

We believe this is important data to grapple with as many governments and affordable housing practitioners continue to pursue strategies focused on the developer-led, mortgage-financed model which, to date, has only served higher-earning segments of the market
Affordable for whom? Our latest blog sheds light on the disparity between entry-level, formally developed house prices and the limited number of households who can actually afford them.

The analysis also presents data to bust the myth that households in Africa can allocate 30% of their monthly expenditure towards housing costs alone. The more realistic assumption is 15%!

[NEW BLOG] Our latest blog for the TSC project highlights how the inefficient and unaffordable Master's Office processes for large estates in South Africa is compromising #titledeed maintenance for lower-income households
https://t.co/VHFK7QzhAX
In cases where the large estate is made up of a single asset (typically only the subsidy property) this is completely unacceptable. South Africa's inefficient, paper-based estate process is a relic of a long-gone analogue age and is simply no longer fit for purpose
Two new case studies are up on the Tenure Support Centre's (TSC) website. Both relate to informal property transactions highlighting the reality of how and why these transactions take place, the risks they create, and how community structures can be used to defend them
