[PoP Idol immersion during Ganesh Festival]
Bombay High Court today clarified that its order dated July 24, 2025 mandating artificial pond immersions for Plaster of Paris (PoP) idols under 6 feet remains in force across Maharashtra until the final verdict on pending petitions is delivered.
The clarification was issued after the State government moved the Court seeking explicit directions.
On August 14, the High Court had reserved its judgment and orally indicated that an earlier June 9, 2025, order which barred all PoP idol immersions in natural water bodies without explicit court permission would apply.
However, because no written order to that effect was uploaded, state authorities sought formal clarification.
The High Court clarified that the July 24 order governs the upcoming festival period:
- Idols under 6 feet: Must be immersed strictly in artificial ponds.
- Idols above 6 feet: Permitted to be immersed in natural water bodies for now.

From the tricolour that flies over every corner of our land to the countless dreams carried by its people: this is more than a celebration of independence.
It is a celebration of Bharat: its soil, its stories, its diversity, its resilience, and its eternal spirit.
Meena and Minal were left as infants at orphanages in India and grew up in different adoptive families in the Netherlands, just a short drive apart. Now, 40 years later, a DNA test has shown that the childhood friends are biological sisters.

#BREAKING Supreme Court directs Karnataka to establish an additional special court for the day-to-day trial of UAPA cases
The PFI conspiracy case involving 707 prosecution witnesses will be transferred to the new court. Key prosecution evidence must be recorded within three months.
Justice Joymalya Bagchi to state of Karnataka : Your understanding of interim bail applications and the examination of witnesses is faulty. Examination of witnesses is part of the trial. When a witness is present, nowhere in India is the witness sent back because a bail application has been filed. The filing of an interim application does not mean that the examination of witnesses cannot continue.
Counsel for State of Karnataka: The trial will not take more than six months. These are grave offences.
CJI Surya Kant: You say that only three protected witnesses are required to be examined and only about 50 of the 707 witnesses are material. Proceed with their examination.
