Awami and Hindutva propagandists are portraying a suspected suicide as a communal incident.

Journalist Pulak Chaterjee was found hanging inside the Samakal bureau office in Barishal. He left Samakal 2 years ago but retained the office key and regularly came to spend time there. Videos show the door was locked from inside and had to be broken open to enter.

Five suicide notes were found, including notes addressed to his wife, daughter, son and current bureau in-charge Sumon. In the notes, he referred to his long-term illness and the suffering he had been going through. He also mentioned seeking treatment in India but said he could not recover despite the treatment.

In the note addressed to Sumon, he apologised for embarrassing him, recalled their roughly 15 years of working together and asked him to forgive any mistakes he may have made. He also requested Sumon to collect his unpaid dues from Samakal, if possible, and hand the money to his wife.

His wife, unable to reach him by phone, contacted current bureau incharge Sumon, who came in the evening and saw him hanging through the gap. Police were then called and the door was broken open to enter inside in presence of the police and journalists.

The five suicide notes and the room being locked from inside indicate that the suspicious death was a suspected suicide.

However, Awami and Hindutva propagandists are portraying it communally.

Indian authorities have demolished a mosque in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, following a court ruling. The case was filed by a member of a Hindu nationalist group.

This video has nothing to do with Islamists or religion. The woman, Zakia Sultana, runs a clothing shop in the market and the incident occurred due to a business-related dispute.

However, Hindutva accounts are falsely portraying the incident while ignoring womens safety in their own country.

This is a false narrative. The video falsely claims that the individuals were abducted and tortured. They were not abducted. They were taken into police custody for questioning in broad daylight, in front of people. They themselves said they were not tortured.

The boy said that when police were detaining him, he tried to flee and was injured in the process. A video also shows him locking door and trying to avoid being caught.

And this is not a "Hindu family" being targeted, as the propaganda suggests. This is a family whose son and brother is the prime accused in the murder of four people and has confessed to the killings.

Awami League has also claimed in the same video that police destroyed evidence. That is lie, fabrication of truth.

Police had already collected evidence while processing the crime scene on the day the bodies were recovered. The water tank had overflowed and some water had flowed onto the roof. That is what happened. No water entered inside.

Collecting evidence from an open rooftop is not some impossible task. The roof is open and clean, and investigators can inspect the entire area within minutes. There is drone footage of the roof and hundreds of hours of media footage documenting the scene.

Three days later, after the tank overflowed and the accused's brother shed crocodile tears while falsely accusing police of destroying evidence, Awami League simply picked up that narrative and amplified it.

To score political points, Awami League has stooped extremely low in this case. They are claiming to stand with the victims while simultaneously fabricating propaganda that serves the accused.

And I want to ask this propagandist: Do you really think the police would leave evidence exposed on an open roof during the rainy season, especially when Rangpur has experienced rain both this week and the previous week? Do you really think police will not collect evidence in the day they come to know the incident? Do you really think police will wait 3 more days to collect the roof evidence? Whatever you think, you are just a propagandist.

It should be the Bangladesh govt taking legal action against this harmful account, one of the biggest sources of cross-border disinformation, constantly pushing anti-Bangladesh propaganda, spreading communal hatred and fueling hostility across the border.

If the Bangladesh govt wants to act, there are plenty of reasonable charges that could be brought against its operator, from spreading hate and false information to engaging in anti-Bangladesh activities and propaganda. The handle has peddled at least 500 fake and misleading claims and hundreds of pieces of propaganda over the years.
