A SK journalist called BTS and HYBE “entitled” and reduced their decision to a power struggle—while already praising future groups from other companies that might win… or might NOT. Shocking Who could have seen that coming?
Anyway, here’s what I think: they are so desperate for even one minute of Western validation that, now that BTS is no longer providing clout for them—and it’s painfully obvious to the entire world that the rest of K-pop is NOT on BTS’s level—they will happily accept this xenophobic consolation prize.
And that desperation will keep them small. They’ll continue discussing “declining stocks and investment” in K-pop instead of fixing the mediocre groups they keep exporting—groups that embarrass themselves at international festivals and would embarrass themselves at the Grammys too, dragging that category even further into the gutter.
Meanwhile, BTS and ARMY will continue breathing a sigh of relief that they had nothing to do with it. 😃
[NEWS] Kim Oujoon, a prominent and influential South Korean journalist & political commentator who has shaped liberal political discourse in South Korea says "#BTS's Grammy withdrawal will remain a landmark in world cultural history for a long time."
"The Grammys see themselves as the most prestigious music awards with no fan-voting or even commercial success criteria, and yet they created a side door, just like MTV. This was basically saying, "Asia, come in through the side door. Separate but equal. The same logic that has normalized racial segregation in America for the past century."
"When MTV did this 7 years ago, BTS still attended despite the controversy. And after criticism, MTV nominated them in main categories outside 'Best K-pop'. But this time, in 2026, BTS said enough is enough and declared to the American mainstream music industry, "We're not using the side door anymore." And they refused."
"An artist from outside of America boycotted the supposedly most prestigious award in music and declared, "You are out of step with the times."

Indian Today cooked Grammy & Zeena Koda with this😭😭
BTS never asked for the category to disappear. They never suggested other Asian artists should reject it. Nor did they dismiss the work of those who fought for its creation. Instead, they drew a boundary around themselves++

[Forbes] “BTS didn’t just skip an awards show, they named the actual question the Grammys have been dodging for over a decade: does this institution want to sort music by identity, or does it want to trust identity not to determine the outcome in the categories that matter most?+

Forbes on the Grammys' new “Best Asian Pop Music Performance” category:
— “Nobody created a ‘Best European Pop Music Performance’ category for Dua Lipa or Ed Sheeran.”
Sleep Deez, a well-respected producer who has worked with BTS, has confirmed via his inside source at the Grammys that BTS were, in fact, gonna be the guinea pigs/test dumbies/poster child for the "Asian Pop Performance" category.
They wanted to legitimize it as a "win-win" for both BTS and the segregation of Asian artists by the Academy. What they did NOT expect was that BTS would have self-respect/self-worth and thought they would be DESPERATE for western/Grammys validation. That is why you see them coke ranting on every social media platform.
