It's always the English ex-players. Gary Neville, Jamie Carragher, Wayne Rooney sometimes, Graeme Souness. The same faces on Sky Sports every Monday night, the same people who get paid to talk about Ronaldo like he owes them something.

Have you ever asked yourself why?

Why is it never the Brazilians who disrespect Ronaldo? Why is it never the Italians? Why is it never the Spanish legends? Why is it never the Portuguese? Why is it always the English?

Because Ronaldo exposed them.

He came to their league as an 18-year-old skinny boy from Madeira, with bleached hair and stepovers, and by the time he left he had taken their Golden Boot, their Player of the Year, their Ballon d'Or, their Champions League, and their entire history. He turned Manchester United from a big English club into a global empire. And then he left them to go and become even bigger.

English ex-players cannot forgive a man who did not stay to worship their league.

They want every great player to retire in England, to become a pundit in England, to say "The Premier League is the best, thank you England for making me." Ronaldo did the opposite. He said "I conquered England, now I want Spain. I conquered Spain, now I want Italy. I conquered Italy, now I will open Saudi."

He made their league look small. And they hate him for it.
