Symbiosis' Bitcoin Bridge was exploited through two software bugs.

A 330 satoshi deposit was enough to trigger 12 fake deposits across $BNB Chain, $Ethereum, and @rootstock_io , creating around 46.1 billion unbacked syBTC, more than 2,000 times Bitcoin's maximum supply.

🔹 The bridge checked the wrong part of the Bitcoin transaction
🔹 The attacker was treated as both depositor and administrator
🔹 A negative fee was interpreted as value instead of a deduction

The result? Prevention failed in four minutes.
Everything that followed, tracing, containment, recovery, rebuilding, happened after the damage was done.

That's the part worth studying.

Security isn't just about recovering from an incident. It's about stopping the wrong action before it becomes irreversible.

Researchers at Palo Alto Networks' Unit 42 disclosed three attack techniques called Pass-ta-key, Silver, and Golden, that could allow malware already running on a Windows machine to use Google-synced passkeys without any user interaction.

None of these attacks break the cryptography behind passkeys.
Instead, they target the systems and trust relationships around them:
🔹 Pass-ta-key: impersonates a trusted device to obtain valid authentication responses
🔹 Silver: forces a re-registration to add an attacker's own verification key
🔹 Golden: extracts the master secret protecting synced passkeys from Chrome's process memory

The key itself wasn't broken. The environment around it was.

Passkeys were designed to eliminate shared secrets. But once credentials are synced across devices and managed through software, new trust paths appear.
