Happy Aloha Friday and Big Mahalo to today's stellar stewards! We got some heavy duty work done today. Stone weavers went right to work gathering and building stone walls at the top of the hill. Others dug in and dug out invasive koa haole and guinea grass. Coming along nicely!
Another wonderful day learning from great people and a beautiful place, full of so many incredible species. Talia opened us up with an introduction to the species and work, as well as the importance of our Botanical Gardens. We went to work from there, pulling out multiple...
Some unfortunate news within the last week. According to eyewitness reports, some folks decided to drive onto the sand here on Monday night, breached the enclosure for monk seal Rocky and her pup, and some were even throwing beer bottles at them. Unacceptable, folks.
Big Mahalo to today's tremendous team! We were wondering if we could even work today with the sudden downpour ☔️😎 Thankfully things cleared up and we went right into removing invasive grasses. Naupaka berries continue to multiply and we gathered and spread those to new areas.
Mahalo to our awesome team! Today we leaned into the many connections and cultural sites in the area, several with connections from offshore islands all the way up to the valley. We worked on removing the regrowth of beggars tick, chinese violets, bittermelon and guinea grass.
Mahalo everyone for an awesome afternoon of service and stewardship. Aloha Lā Mākuakane! We focused on the Nuʻuanu Stream today, learning about the confluences of Pauoa and Nuʻuanu Streams which then continue on as Nuʻuanu Stream then joined by Waolani Stream.
Hauʻoli Lā Makuakane!
Happy Father’s Day!

A nice overcast morning of service in Nānākuli today. The canal was a lot worse today than we have seen it in prior months. Great work to the team for making that cleanup a priority and being creative in the cleanup. Folks also moved along the shoreline and road side.

A nice surprise today as a bus load of YMCA kids and staff made it out to us at Kaloko Inlet. While our morning crew was getting into the weeds and work of the day, I was able to take this group around the 15 acre pennisula to show them different areas of the stewardship work.
