The owner of the bathroom has the right to decide who gets to use it - whether restricted to a specific sex, open for anyone to use, restricted for employees, or boarded up and converted into a broom closet. If they're smart, they'll take the opinions of their customers into account. Regardless, it's their decision and theirs alone. In the case of government bathrooms - such as schools - the first solution is that the government shouldn't be running schools. The second is single occupant bathrooms.

The athletes on the team have the sole right to determine who they will play with, or against. No one has any right to force or coerce them with a mandate that they compete with other people, or a prohibition that they cannot.
