Forty-three (43) members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force successfully graduated from a seven-week Jamaican Sign Language and Deaf Culture Training Programme during a ceremony held at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel, earlier today.
Senior Superintendent Dennis Brooks, representing Dr Kevin Blake, Commissioner of Police, commended the graduates for their dedication and commitment to professional development and inclusive policing. Several Divisional Commanders were also in attendance to celebrate the achievement.
The seven-week programme, delivered through a partnership involving the Jamaica Association for the Deaf, the Social Justice Programme, UNDP, and the Government of Canada, equipped participants with the skills and cultural awareness needed to communicate more effectively with members of the Deaf community.
This initiative underscores the JCF’s commitment to accessibility, inclusivity, and strengthening trust and engagement with all citizens.

Strength isn’t carrying every burden alone. Strength is knowing when to reach out for help.
This Men’s Mental Health Month, let’s break the silence, challenge the stigma, and remind every man that he doesn’t have to carry the weight alone.
Together, we can create a culture where men feel safe to speak up, seek support, heal, and be heard.
Because asking for help is a sign of strength, not weakness.
