Today my sister became a bride. I am happy for her, truly, yet my joy keeps glancing back at my mother.

We are many siblings, but she was the one who carried us all. She cared for our Mom with the most tenderness, and she cared for us too, quietly, without ever being asked.

She raised our spirits the way a mother would, though she never had to.
Now she is moving to another city, and our home will have to learn how to miss her.
She is the kindness I have known all my life..
