Despite being stabbed and seriously injured, he fought back, resisted, opened the cockpit door, and enabled passengers and crew to overpower the attacker — preventing a catastrophic mid-air disaster.

He saved the lives of 174 people, including Israeli citizens and other nationals.

I wish Captain Machchhar a speedy and full recovery.

He is a true hero.

R. Veeramani’s own account documents two direct links between his family and the DMK.

In The Modern Rationalist - Annual Number 2023, R. Veeramani describes the following:

1️⃣ His father, S. P. Rengaswami, joined the DMK. R. Veeramani states that his father was a rationalist and follower of Periyar who “joined DMK and became an activist.” He subsequently contested the Tiruchengodu constituency as an MLA candidate.

2️⃣ His sister married S. Kandappan, a DMK MP. R. Veeramani explicitly states: “When the late S. Kandappan was a DMK MP, he married my sister Saradamani.” He adds that, at that time, his father stopped his active political activity.

These two connections are directly stated in R. Veeramani’s own account published in The Modern Rationalist - Annual Number 2023.
