Former Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh has claimed that an aerial survey has uncovered nearly 700 acres of illicit poppy cultivation in Kangpokpi district.

Singh warned that the unchecked spread of poppy fields is destroying vast forest areas and endangering Manipur’s cultural heritage.

Sharing aerial footage, he noted that the illegal cultivation lies within the Kanglatongbi–Kangpokpi Reserved Forest near Mount Koubru, a sacred site.

CHURACHANDPUR, MANIPUR

Security Forces neutralised 4 cadres of the proscribed United National Kuki Army (UKNA), a non-SoO #Kukimilitant group, one injured cadre was apprehended- in an intel-based operation at Khanpi, Henglep sub- division (Churachandpur).

In follow-up ops, 5 more UKNA cadres, including a juvenile, were arrested with arms & ammunitions at Sankhot village. The operation is still in progress and a search of the adjoining areas is in progress.

The arrested cadres are:
Paolonlal Kipgen (30)
Kamlalien (23)
L. Longkhel Singsit (26)
Kangjipao (37)
Thangsawan (14)

UKNA cadres recently killed a village chief. The victim was identified as Mangthang Haokip, chief of T Khonomphai village.

@PUCLindia has done a grave injustice to the people of Manipur especially the Meiteis. Their report on Manipur Violence turns out grossly inaccurate, biased and highly inflammatory and a legal action is necessary. They owe an apology too.
