The @DrivelineBB coaching tree - and influence tree (there are Edgertronic cameras/weighted balls in about every pro bullpen and facility) - have proliferated throughout baseball. The Driveline Way shouldn't be controversial: ask questions, try something, collect data, create a feedback loop, adjust. It works! Yet, when an MLB team has a down year, baseball's most influential garage startup is cited as a problem. When an MLB org with Driveline influence has a good year, it's ignored by the usual suspects. ... "You're biased, Travis." OK. But I also have conviction in this belief that the process/systems are the correct ones. The conviction is born out of extensive reporting.
Baseball has a way of taking care of it's own. Can't speak for other sports. Many players with familiar last names earn their opportunities just fine. But there's no doubt that having a last name like Holliday helps for getting opportunities and draft position.
2026 MLB Combine with familiar names. This isn't any different than most years. Most deserve to be here.

Nepotism has long been a part of baseball. Sons of coaches/executives have always gotten a roster spot, when others didn't.
Here's a story on why that's changing.
And how one apparent case of nepotism with the Angels highlights this shift in MLB.

He threw 50 pitches in 4 innings (efficient). No walks (commanded it). Only allowed 1 run (accomplished the goal). Is selfish for getting excited about 99? STFU.
Go watch Nick Martinez, Davis Martin, Wrobleski. There's more balance in MLB today than people want to recognize.
This is what these analytic non baseball coaches have turned today’s players into. CHASING VELOCITY. Making players “selfish”. This is a TEAM game! I honestly wish the best for EVERY player and I’m not getting on Gage. I blame these analytic non baseball coaches! The game needs more REAL baseball people!

The latest mock draft from @MLBPipeline has the Red Sox taking LHP Brody Bumila out of Bishop Feehan High School in Attleboro, MA.
Bumila has been dominating local headlines. Already getting up to 102 with a 6-foot-9 frame. Currently committed to Texas.
I've got Grady Emerson over Roch Cholowsky. Feels very Bobby Witt Jr. / Adley Rutschman. You take good player Cholowsky at 1 and regret passing on the GUY who goes 2. Grady at 1 for me.
Craig Breslow managed to clear this guy's remaining $250m salary and grab a few solid pieces in return, yet he's still managed to be one of the worst decision makers in baseball over the last year
@ThirstRoundPick All of this and no mention of passing on Bobby Witt Jr. at 1-1 for Adley. Adley is a darn good player, but Bobby Witt Jr. is a face of the game.
Big Cijntje fan. Loved him in the 2024 draft class. Elite athlete on the mound with a fastball that has strong characteristics and velo from the right side. Cardinals continue to stockpile high-upside pitching prospects.
It's crazy when you can't spell the players name right and correctly identify the position and this is someone you're higher on than the consensus. Lol.
FYPD prospects I’m higher on and lower on than the consensus

@rossjensen For someone whose whole deal is running data through a model, this is kind of funny no?
About every team except for Colorado ran Ethan through a model. We'll see how it goes!
Conner is a tremendous scout. Did a ton of work on James Wood, a player that many teams were out on. Whatever becomes of Wood, he was a key piece in acquiring a generational bat for San Diego. Great hire for Detroit.
Still hard to imagine Anthony Volpe playing shortstop everyday for the Yankees. We'll see how long it lasts. Everyday big leaguer, sure. Shortstop for the New York Yankees longterm, eh?
Here's the tricky thing about Verdugo. He's an outfielder who doesn't hit for power and doesn't run. Doesn't profile in the corner outfield for a competitive team and also has questionable make-up. He's not worthless, but he is a 4th outfielder if you're trying to win.
