Dear world... 🙏🙏🙏
TODAY IN JAKARTA - Thousands of Indonesian university students are taking to the streets in a massive protest dubbed "Indonesia Going Bankrupt" (Aksi Menuju Indonesia Bangkrut).
📍 Location: Bundaran HI (Hotel Indonesia Roundabout), Central Jakarta
🗓️ Date: Friday, June 12, 2026
The protest is led by BEM UI (the Student Executive Board of the University of Indonesia), joined by students from IPB, UIN Jakarta, UPN Veteran, Gunadarma, and many other campuses across the Greater Jakarta area.
This isn't just UI. This is a coalition.
Their 5 key demands:
🔴 Stop wasteful use of the state budget (APBN)
⛽ Lower fuel prices (BBM was just hiked over 30% on June 10)
🍽️ Halt the Free Nutritious Meals program amid corruption scandals
🪖 Reject military creep into civilian institutions
🗣️ Demand President Prabowo acknowledge government failures & stop avoiding public criticism
Indonesia is the world's 4th most populous nation. When its students march, it carries weight.
The last time student movements mobilized like this, they reshaped the country's political direction.
This is democracy in action. Indonesian students aren't just complaining, they're demanding accountability.
The world should be watching🙌🔥🤝
The Indonesian Mass Media is genuinely fucking embarrassing. FUCK THE TELEVISION. Y'all deadass gotta do something about this shit to change the narrative from those television stations.
You know how brilliant their idea to choose Bundaran HI sebagai tempat "aksi" mereka adalah? It’s because they know Bundaran HI adalah pusat titik keramaian Jakarta.
Choosing Bundaran HI means maximum exposure. Akses ke semua lapisan masyarakat itu potensial banget buat attract publik. From the corporate slaves stepping out of their Sudirman offices, people commuting, to the general public—everyone is literally there. It is the ultimate hub to get eyes on your movement.
Plus di Bundaran HI, segala jenis transportasi umum ada. It’s the literal heart of Jakarta's transit. So obviously, the traffic will be disrupted. But honestly? In modern activism, that disruption is a feature, not a bug. When the traffic gets a bit chaotic, people are forced to look. It creates that instant "Wait, what’s happening over there?" effect.
As someone who used to organize actions and protests too, let’s be real for a second: pemilihan Bundaran HI ini bukan lagi buat "protes" langsung ke pihak yang diprotes.
Why? Karena ya udah pasti gak bakal didengar. Pointing fingers directly at the institutions just ends up making you tired, drained, and honestly, males banget. It’s a dead end.
Makanya mereka pilih Bundaran HI. It’s no longer about yelling at a brick wall; it’s about controling the narrative and winning the public's attention. If the authorities won't listen, you make the entire city talk about it instead. And there’s no better stage for that than Bundaran HI.
BREAKING NEWS: Instagram dan Facebook dilaporkan down!
For those who want a bit more context: a massive student and worker protest is unfolding in Indonesia’s capital in response to the Prabowo government’s decision to raise fuel prices, alongside other policies that many Indonesians are calling corrupt because they deepen the burden on working-class Indonesians already struggling with rising living costs and a weakening rupiah.
What’s fueling the anger even further is the broader feeling that economic pressure is being pushed downward onto ordinary people while major policy decisions continue to favour politicians and the ultra wealthy.
Just last year, Indonesians protested over the same kind of government corruption, which led to a crackdown on its own civilians using military force in cities like Jakarta and Bandung, resulting in multiple deaths and injuries, including those of students.
This situation, however, embarrassed the Probowo government, as people from all over the world began paying attention and massed mobilised to send food, medical/legal aid and financial donations via apps like Grab and Ojek (the region’s equivalent of Uber) the movement received particularly strong support from people across Asia, especially Southeast and East Asia, while also drawing contributions from around the world. This is why Indonesians are asking the world pay attention to their country again.

The equivalent of Bunderan HI is the America's Time Square, I think.. but CMIIW. So, Bunderan HI is where all the big businesses holed up. We usually protested at Gedung DPR or the government office, but I think since our mission is to get civilians and all the worker to the-
