I am very ecumenical: I want Greeks and Bulgarians to be Orthodox monarchists, Portuguese to be Catholic monarchists, and northern Germans to be Lutheran monarchists. 😇
Even though I am neither Orthodox nor Catholic, for some reason I feel a burning hatred for Protestants who think they need to "evangelize" Orthodox or Catholics.
While I can't take credit for the image, I'm glad that this reply of mine has proved popular. Clearly the internet cries out for historical memes with accurate flags.
I particularly hate it when people use the republican flag to represent pre-1910 Portugal. No, no, no, no, no.
"Correcting" me on royalty is usually not worth it. Someone claimed that my use of the "England" flag with George V on my eponymous photo was wrong because it was Nicholas II.
No, Nicholas II did not attend the funeral of Edward VII.
He deleted his reply.
I immediately Block people who spoil my tweets about the royals with replies or retweets making irrelevant references to *pst**n or S*v*l*. Just shut up and go away. I don't want to hear about it.
@noah_nonsense I was in Bavaria when Duke Albrecht died in summer 1996 and it seemed to be treated almost like the death of a reigning monarch.
I'm not convinced that most Bavarians have ever been truly republican, but sadly there is a certain inertia.
I am genuinely curious why a bunch of US accounts—with absolutely no understanding of a constitutional monarchy— "angrily" flock to the comments sections of royal accounts 🤣. The arrogance is truly breathtaking. Meanwhile, some UK politicians are also keen on Americanising British politics.
@The_Davos_Man Another big mistake was not restoring the Eastern European monarchies! It is an abomination that the Communists have been allowed to get their way on the question of the monarchy. I want 1945-47 undone completely.
To repeat. The biggest mistake in modern European political history was that we forgave the communists in 1989, instead of putting them and their ideology on trial for their crimes.
@Damjanits@theepicmap By May 1910 Emperor Franz Joseph was 79 and rarely traveled outside of Austria-Hungary. He was represented at Edward VII's funeral by his nephew and heir Archduke Franz Ferdinand (1863-1914).
@robertshaftoe41@theepicmap George I (1845-1913), not his predecessor Otto (1815-1867).
While Ferdinand I did indeed abdicate in 1918, it's worth noting that the Bulgarian monarchy survived until 1946.

BREAKING: First image of Lady Marina Charlotte Windsor and Nico’s wedding!!!!
Marina is wearing the same tiara her late grandmother The Duchess of Kent wore on her wedding day, the Kent family tiara.
@TheLeftMons Sorry but if the “far right” do not succeed in halting the rise of Islam in Europe, things will eventually get a lot worse for gay people. Your hatred of everything and anything that might be called “far right” is misplaced.
