Communist Party leader Gennady Zyuganov has warned of rising “tension and danger” in Russian society.

Speaking at the KPRF’s pre-election congress, Zyuganov said Russians were increasingly anxious. Zyuganov blamed the situation on the ruling United Russia’s policies, though he did not link the claim to specific decisions.

He also attacked the growth in the number of Russian billionaires since the start of the Western sanctions in 2022. “The number of billionaires in Russia has increased, listen to this, from 101 to 155. Their wealth has swollen to $700 billion, which significantly exceeds the state budget,” Zyuganov said.

“Our fellow citizens are sick to death of this feast during a plague,” he added.
