New York Scrappy (9/2) indeed. Gelding, under Flavien Prat, fights back after being headed by Kenny Be to take SAR 3rd. Third win in 2 days for Ilkay Kantarmaci. 1-5-4-2
Nice round of applause for New York Scrappy as he makes his THIRD straight visit to the winner’s circle! Galvin & Johnson bred the #NYbred son of @McMahonSaratoga's #NYsire Solomini. Prat up for Ilkay Kantarmaci, @ZillaStable, and @APStables.
She did it! Scarlet’s Dream has had to overcome more than most, so to see her get it done today is really special. Couldn’t be prouder of this filly and the fight she’s shown. Big thank you to Keri Brion and her team, and a great ride by Chris Elliott. This one means a lot. (Press play for the song clip)
Third stakes win for the favorite as Arctic Beast lives up to his name and cruises in the Damon Runyon! @rockridgestud, @SaratogaGlen, and Beal's bred the talented #NYbred. @RSantana_Jr up for Paradise Farms, JP Racing, Staudacher, @ZillaStable, P Shooter, and Maker.
Here is a picture of our horse, Tongue Twister, on her winter vacation — absolutely having a blast running around in the snow. ❄️🐎
This is a well-deserved break, and you can see how much she’s enjoying just being a horse. Time out on winter turnout isn’t only good physically — it’s huge psychologically for them as well.
Horses benefit from this kind of downtime in a few key ways:
•Mental decompression: A break from training routines lowers stress and helps reset their mind.
•Natural movement & play: Free running, bucking, and exploring builds confidence and keeps them mentally fresh.
•Sensory enrichment: Snow, cold air, and new footing stimulate curiosity and engagement instead of monotony.
•Emotional balance: Horses that get turnout breaks often come back happier, more willing, and more focused when work resumes.
💚 14 Seasons of Persistence, Growth, and Gratitude for Zilla Racing Stables 🐎
We’re closing in on 1,000 starts, nearly $9 million in earnings, with an 18% win rate, 48% in-the-money finishes, and $8,959 earnings per start.
We’ve done it the hard way — without unlimited pockets, fighting every race like a team trying to win football games without first- or second-round draft picks, but usually trying to beat teams full of them.
The real story happens behind the curtain — from finding the right claims in a high-risk arena to buying young horses that are, in truth, dreams in the rough.
It’s the most challenging part of the game — where even the biggest stables miss more than they hit. We’re out there bidding against the giants, searching for the overlooked, the undervalued, the maybes.
And when you do land on one — whether it’s a horse you claim or a young horse you purchase — it’s like steering your boat through the roughest waves, gripping the wheel tighter, doing everything you can to keep the ship steady until the water finally settles.
Part of that storm isn’t just the horses — it’s the people. We have to keep our partners steady and confident through a game that can humble anyone.
Unfortunately, we’ve had longtime partners lose faith and drift away — and each time, it leaves a mark that never truly heals. We value every partner deeply, and sometimes it’s those who haven’t yet seen how rough the sea of horse ownership can get who find it hardest to stay aboard.
We’ve even weathered moments when people we trusted — those we brought inside our circle, shared our process with, and treated as teammates — chose to set out on their own. That’s part of the game too, and it stings, especially when they take pieces of what you built with them.
In one case, it cut especially deep — we had given that person opportunities and horses at cost, believing we were investing in a teammate’s future. Instead, that same generosity helped launch a separate venture. It’s a strange feeling, realizing that your own goodwill helped someone else set sail — even with passengers who once stood on your deck.
To be clear, we hold no bitterness toward those partners — some still do business with us today, and we genuinely wish them success. What stung was that the person we helped rise didn’t draw a line of respect and simply say, “Out of appreciation for what built me, I won’t take those who were part of it.” That moment taught us a lot about loyalty — and how rare it truly is.
But experiences like that only strengthen our resolve to stay true to who we are. They remind us why we’ve built Zilla Racing Stables on loyalty, transparency, and accountability — values that don’t just survive the storms, they’re forged by them.
That’s why we don’t hide from the lows — we highlight them. In fact, we might be the only racing syndicate that showcases setbacks on our own website, because we believe transparency and honest expectations are the foundation of trust.
Even when you’re doing better than average, it can feel like you’re losing — because this sport tests patience, faith, and perspective every single day. There’s a reason they call it the Sport of Kings.
Many owners and outfits have been crushed by those same waves — usually because they underestimated how relentless they can be.
So when it all finally comes together — when the ship steadies, the storm breaks, and your horse comes charging down the stretch in front — that’s when it all makes sense. Because that moment isn’t just about winning a race; it’s surviving everything it took to get there.
Here’s to 14 seasons of storms, sunlight, and the unshakable belief that the best still lies ahead. 💚
Zilla Racing Stables — built to last, built together.
LetMeCountTheWays was all class in the $200K Maid of the Mist on Empire Showcase Day at Aqueduct — cruising home in dominant fashion! 💫🏆
Incredible training job by @trainerMMaker and his team getting her to fire like this. The performance was so impressive that jockey Joel Rosario was able to flip the auto-pilot switch on pretty early in the race. 😄✈️
Another lopsided stakes victory for YAUPON’s undefeated 2yo colt Arctic Beast, extending his sire’s lead on the North American First-Crop Sire’s List👏 #YO
Arctic Beast, the talented son of Yaupon, just keeps delivering! The New York Breeders’ Futurity winner is now a perfect 3-for-3 after another dominant @FlGaming victory for Paradise, JP, Staudacher, @ZillaStable, Rice, @trainerMMaker, and @RSantana_Jr.
LETMECOUNTTHEWAYS the most impressive debut we have ever been apart of. We’re beyond grateful to be partnered with Paradise Farm Corp, @trainerMMaker , JP Racing Stable, and David Staudacher on this filly (and on ARCTIC BEAST). Two incredibly talented NY-breds, and two journeys we’re lucky to share with such great partners. @jose93_ortiz
