A completed Portal fan remake is stuck in limbo because Valve stopped respond to devs

Portal: Alive & Kicking was developed with Valve’s approval and received access to Portal 2’s source code, a rare privilege for a fan project.

The team says it still can’t be released because Valve hasn’t responded to the final paperwork needed to publish it on Steam.

The developers submitted the required non-commercial license months ago and have waited ever since.
Because the project uses Valve’s proprietary source code and is covered by an NDA, they can’t upload it elsewhere while waiting.

The video game industry is the only industry where players are made or feel like..🚀

✅They owe money & support to studios even if they don’t like the product

✅Studios are doing you a favor by making games and you need to be “grateful” and completely okay waiting 1-6 months for a fix that modders can do in 24 hours

✅Penalizing early adopters by paying full price and getting the worst version of the game, while those who buy a year or two later for $15 get the full game with DLC and all added abilities that are not worth going back to once you’ve finished the game

✅Made to feel guilty over anything bad that happens in a studio

✅Justify why all kinds of basterdization to game lore and design and all kinds of anti-consumer policies are implemented for the sake of profiting higher ups

✅Treating players like children and expected to spend like adults

I’m genuinely appalled, because 99% arguments against gamers would totally fall off in any other industry, if the same issues were encountered with a fridge, a stove, a car, a smart phone or any product

And somehow, prices keep going up, content value keeps going down, and more restrictions are imposed and privileges taken over time
