The current state of sniper rifles creates a significant problem with both weapon effectiveness and progression in @WARDOGS
The attached gameplay clip demonstrates the issue: two sniper headshots somehow doesn't kill someone that I believe was wearing tier 4. The damage statistics show that the Mosin and SV-98 have 176 FMJ headshot damage against an unarmoured target, but their effectiveness is significantly reduced against armoured players.
This becomes especially problematic when looking at the game's progression system:
Mosin — Recon Level 10
SV-98 — Recon Level 19
MK22 — Recon Level 25
Tier 2 armour — Overall Level 30
Tier 3 armour — Overall Level 60
AP ammunition for Mosin/SV-98 — Overall Level 82
Tier 4 armour — Overall Level 100
MK22 AP ammunition — Overall Level 140
There are six classes contributing towards overall level, meaning players can encounter higher-tier armour well before they have access to the ammunition specifically designed to counter it.
This creates a large gap where players have access to sniper rifles, but don't have access to their AP ammunition.
For example, the Mosin is unlocked at Recon Level 10, while the SV-98 is unlocked at Recon Level 19. However, players can obtain Tier 2 armour at overall Level 30 and Tier 3 armour at Level 60, while AP ammunition for these rifles doesn't become available until overall Level 82.
The problem becomes even more obvious with the MK22. I spent forever trying to unlock this thinking it would be able to deal with armour and the constant underwhelming feeling of when i shoot someone in the head and they run away. The rifle is unlocked at Recon Level 25, the standard FMJ rounds only do 6 more damage than the Mosin and SV-98, but it's AP ammunition isn't available until overall Level 140! Meanwhile, Tier 4 armour is available from overall Level 100. I believe the MK22 should one shot tier 3 with FMJ and tier 4 with AP.
This was one of the reasons infrared rangefinders became so heavily used.
Rather than using the sniper rifle to actually engage and eliminate targets, players were increasingly using the rangefinder to spot enemies and contribute through spotting instead. It became a viable alternative to actually fighting with the sniper because the sniper's ability to reliably deal with armoured targets was so limited.
Eventually, this became such a prevalent strategy that infrared rangefinders have been removed, now creating a massive gap in being able to progress recon.
Removing the rangefinder doesn't solve the underlying problem if players were turning to it because the sniper itself wasn't effective enough.
If the sniper is supposed to be the primary long-range weapon for the Recon class, players should have a reason to actually use the rifle rather than finding alternative ways of contributing to the team. As it stands, sniping is VERY underewarding.
Please @Brammflakes@L0SSY@BULKHEAD@HowardPhilpott@phantasyftw I LOVE this game, but snipers are struggling out here.

@CODUpdates Still nothing about the state of SBMM and rug pulling open matchmaking. Public matches should not feel like CDL finals, it’s absolutely exhausting!
I played a few hours of MW4 and im not going to lie, its absolutely awful. I'm not sure what I was expecting, but just everything about the MP is horrid. Map design, spawns, general flow of the game. The SBMM just tops it all off, every single lobby is a CDL final, 0 fun.
WE ARE HIRING PLAYERS - QA TESTERS
Want to break into the games industry?
We noticed that our community testers were on average reporting higher quality more specific bugs than our outsourced QA teams.
We have for years required applicants for all roles submit their Steam recently played when applying to @BULKHEAD, contraversial 'apparently'... but we just want people who give a shit about what they do.. call it passion, call it drive, call it obsession.. whatever you want..
The games industry has been pretty weak for the last 6 or 7 years, but it's getting good again.. If you're interested in working in an industry where you get to make something that people play, be part of a team, and work on something you care about, apply for this.
It's an entry level role, you must be in the UK, and it's hard work.. But if you want a way in? Here's an opportunity, we don't care if you're experienced or not.. just that you care.
Please retweet and help get this in front of someone who might make a life changing decision and join a pretty cool industry as it turns a corner again.

I explained my point but I’ll do it again. MK22 unlocks at RECON level 30. T3 unlocks at OVERALL level 70. By the time you unlock the MK22, a lot of people have the T3 armour unlocked making the MK22 useless. This causes a huge gap between people have snipers that are on level grounds with armour. We saw this in season 1, it caused everyone to abuse the infrareds because the snipers before the 50cal become useless. The MK22 should be buffed so that it is in line with the later stages of the game.
MK22 unlocks at level 30, but still does fuck all damage. Maybe if they increased the damage it would make sense, but as of right now, it's probably the most useless gun in the game. By the time you unlock that, everyone has level 3 armour and there's no point using it. It should one shot tier 3 and with AP it should one shot tier 4. #WARDOGS
@Pethy00 So what if it does the same thing? It’s an option. It also would require AP rounds, so it doesn’t do the same thing. Why are you so set on just using the same gun? Name one other game were you have to use one specific sniper? There should be options.
@Pethy00 I said it should one shot with AP, not standard. You don’t unlock AP until level 140 which I’d guess 80% of players won’t get to. It also allows players to use something other than just the 50cal. It’s a .308 ffs and does 6 more damage than the mosin and SV-98.
