More beams lifted into place at Black Cat 🏗️

Six 43m bridge girders, each weighing 72 tonnes, were installed using an 800‑tonne crane over two days.

A key milestone in building the new junction, connecting the A1, A421, and local roads.

UPDATE - A1 northbound at Kelpie. The HGV which tipped earlier has been recovered. However, there was a lot of debris which is taking longer to clear. We anticipate everything being clear at around 3pm. Thank you for your patience.

URGENT - The A1 northbound has been closed due to a fallen HGV. This at Kelpie, between Tempsford and Black Cat. Emergency services are on scene and recovery on way. Please try to avoid the area.

While the A1 southbound was closed at the weekend for traffic management, drainage and UK Power Networks works, our team carried out a verge litter pick, collecting 20+ bags of rubbish.

Please use a bin or take litter home.

Yesterday, traffic on the A428 east of Caxton Gibbet moved onto a new stretch of road linking directly to the northern roundabout. A big step forward as work continues on the upgraded junction and new flyover bridge.

Services remain open.
