With what's happening at @US_IMLS, we've been getting some questions about how this might impact @aadl. Once I started writing about all the good that IMLS does, I couldn't stop. So here's 2500 words on what IMLS does for us all. https://t.co/gqaWSuylrl
The Kids Area at the Downtown Library has closed for about 8 weeks of updates and reorganization! In the meantime, we’ve got a temporary Kids Room set up in the Lobby.

2025 seems like a great time to start a blog. So, I'm restarting the AADL Director's Blog! For my first post, I look back over our Bicentennial Project, highlighting my favorites. There are so many of them! So, here are my Top 100 of the Ann Arbor 200: https://t.co/o1eTo032Vk
Ann Arbor 200 project #109 features Bobby and the Old Professor, a beloved science series created by R. Ray Baker with help from U-M experts. Each week, the series simplified science for kids, covering subjects like radios, ancient pottery, & volcanos.

Ann Arbor 200 project #152 is both a map and a work of art. The Natural Ann Arbor Map by Marcy Marchello focuses on the nature of Ann Arbor, highlighting the Huron River, parks, trails, and wildlife in hand-drawn illustrations and text.

Hugely excited to release a new track from @MicLeagueKings as part of our Ann Arbor 200 bicentennial project. Big thanks to @JamallBufford and company for producing this track about their history. Download it now: https://t.co/jfGcTpdXkT
Athletic Mic League’s new single, “Made History,” traces the hip-hop group’s legacy and namechecks important figures & Black businesses. We spoke to Jamall Bufford about the song & how AADL commissioned the group to compose it for the city’s bicentennial. https://t.co/zidKWlp8Rt
This Saturday Downtown we've got 2 big Bicentennial events!
Join us at Noon to help us build the new LEGO courthouse around the old LEGO courthouse, as in 1954.
Then at 2 PM, it's the world premiere of LAST SUMMER, a new play about Fermi and Heisenberg in Ann Arbor in 1939.
In addition to this 15-minute highlight, we've also released the entirety of all the interviews, carefully salvaged from magnetic tape. You can now see those interviews, and all the edited episodes from 1974, including a newly-discovered lost episode:

In 1974, AAPL produced a video series of interviews celebrating 150 years of the city's history. For our bicentennial project, filmmaker Aaron Valdez combed through 17 hours of rediscovered interviews to produce I Remember When: Bicentennial Remix:

Our Ann Arbor 200 Bicentennial project wraps up this month, including:
-A weekly documentary film fest
-A new play about Theoretical Physics
-A LEGO recreation of the county courthouse
-The history of Mime in Ann Arbor IN MIME
-Release of a new Hip Hop history track
and more!
The U–M Summer Symposium in Theoretical Physics brought great minds to A2 for 15 years between WWI & WWII. One evening in 1939, Enrico Fermi tried to convince his friend Werner Heisenberg not to return to Germany, where he would be compelled to help Nazis develop nuclear weapons.
This weekend, @UMichFootball and @NUFBFamily face off for the George Jewett Trophy, celebrating the legacy of George Jewett Jr.—the first African-American college football player in FBS history.
Please join us at the Downtown Library at 6:30 tonight for music and refreshments to celebrate the dedication of a new Black History Bicentennial Mural! Local artists were asked to reinterpret images from @aadlarchives and the results are spectacular:

Please join us at 6 PM on Saturday 11/16, to welcome former Simpsons showrunner, food personality, and collectible vinyl toy impresario @thatbilloakley to the Downtown Library! Bill's work is a delight across many media, and a fun evening is a surety! https://t.co/vu52oUR4de
So excited to be taking this first step towards an amazing new Downtown Library on its current site for the people of the AADL district. Rezoning the current site opens up new approaches to the project that will benefit the whole community!
