20 March 2017. Just over 9 years ago, over 80 real clubs, Australian cultural institutions, met in Melb to unite 🇦🇺 ⚽️ & start a nat'l 2nd div. FIFA recognised us that night, praised the outcome now & greenlit the final step.

Let's finish it together.

Best bit of the Football Australia AGM was Gianni Infantino sending in a video in which he praised the launch of the @AusChampionship, talked about bringing together “old soccer and new football,” and shouted out South Melbourne in the OFC Pro League - the only club referenced.

The barometer of a successful administrative tenure for all Fed Boards or Management, is whether they deliver much needed ⚽️ infrastructure 🏟️ for our code’s long term success.

This is one issue. But it's ok that private, for profit, AL companies, controlled by whoever from time to time, can have a large say over who runs Football Australia while running the AL separately. Fundamentally flawed governance of 🇦🇺 ⚽️

Thanks Tracey. The root question is why the A-Leagues, post unbundling, have any say in FA governance. APL's relationship with FA, as a private for-profit, separate entity, should be governed by contract. Having over 30% votes, + PFA & % of women's council = control & scandalous.

I'll note again that FA gave the AL to the APL, keeping 15%. The APL sold 1/3rd for $140M+!! Our money. Lost it. Owed/paid $7M to FA & got it back. Why?

Disgraceful Football Australia wrote off a reported $6m debt owing from APL (privately owning A League). For that money we would now have a fully established national home & away 2nd division, linked by Pro/Rel to the club pyramid… inclusive, uniting & aspirational… the future

Women's WC? Legacy was declared/owned immediately. Now the truth is emerging we have no owners.

FA represents the ⚽️ public. It first GAVE, free less 15%, the AL comp to the franchise owners, who had only paid for a seat in the AL (not for the AL), via their company, the APL. The APL sold 1/3rd for $140M! FA got 5%, about $7M. Now it forgives $6M APL debt. Please explain.

This reveals us as small, fearful and provincial. We tell ourselves we are the world's best city, the events capital, worldly and cosmopolitan but we fear the world's game. Its passion, vibrancy and inclusiveness. Sad and pathetic. Let's grow up. @AFL will survive the carnival.
