Sally Hemings was just 14 when she first met Thomas Jefferson. At 16, he impregnated her. He was nearly 46.
He enslaved every child he fathered with her. A painful truth from black’s history we should never forget
She washed clothes by hand for 75 years, and then gave almost everything she had so strangers could go to college.
She lived in a tiny wooden house, patched her shoes with tape, and saved quietly for decades. No fame. No luxury. No spotlight.
Then at 87, she walked into the University of Southern Mississippi and donated $150,000, her entire life savings, to fund scholarships for students she would never meet.
When asked why, her answer was simple: “I want to help somebody’s child go to college.”
Her gift inspired thousands of people to give, and her scholarship fund continued changing lives long after her passing.
Oseola McCarty proved that true wealth is not measured by how much you keep, but by how many lives you touch.
The family of Tony Brown, the trailblazing black journalist died last week at 93. His "Tony Brown's Journal" was the longest running series in the history of PBS. He was the founding dean of Howard's communication school and later inaugural dean Hampton's journalism school.
In the tradition of the black press, he rejected the activist/journalist distinction. Just one example: In 1963, he helped coordinate a 500,000 person march in Detroit where it is believed Martin Luther King first gave a version of the I Have A Dream speech.
This is how they steal black welt from black family. They use the law to confiscate black land and give it to white corporation.. They get ready to lock up a black family for refusing to give up their land to a railroad company..
The Supreme Court’s decision allowing the Trump administration to end legal protections for Haitians and Syrians is heartbreaking and morally dangerous.
We are talking about people who fled violence, instability, natural disaster, civil war, and conditions no human being should be forced to endure. Many have built lives here, raised families here, worked here, and contributed to communities across this nation.
America has a long history of deciding which people are worthy of refuge, dignity, and protection, too often along lines of race, ethnicity, religion, and national origin. We must tell the truth about that history. Black and Brown people seeking safety have too often been met with suspicion, cruelty, and rejection instead of compassion and justice.
Temporary Protected Status was created to protect people from being sent back into danger. Ending those protections for Haitian and Syrian families is not just a legal decision. It is a moral one.
We must choose humanity.

Opal Lee, described as the "grandmother of the movement,” said that as the 250th birthday of America approaches, people should also remember Juneteenth.

Juneteenth is both a celebration of freedom and a reminder that freedom must be protected, expanded, and made real in every generation.
My father wrote, “Oppressed people cannot remain oppressed forever.” Today, we honor the ancestors who endured, resisted, and hoped. And we recommit ourselves to the ongoing work of justice, dignity, and creating the Beloved Community.

My mother understood that violence is not only physical. It is also found in systems, policies, neglect, and indifference.
May we have the courage to confront violence in all of its forms and create a more just, humane world.

“If you do not vote, you have sold us out. If you sit at home talking about neither party is doing anything for you, you’ve betrayed us. Every time you sit silently and won’t use your voice or your vote, you have enabled evil”

#OTD in 1948 my dad graduated from @Morehouse, a milestone that helped set the foundation for his leadership in the civil rights movement. His time there grounded him in purpose, discipline, and a lifelong commitment to justice.
To this year’s graduates, may you leave with that same commitment to build, lead, and serve.
This beautiful queen has been blessed to witness all 12 of her grandchildren and 9 of her great-grandchildren walk across the stage and graduate high school 🔥🙏🏾
Look at her holding it down with her cane and that proud smile while her grandson rocks his West Port High School graduation. Generations of love, resilience, and achievement in one frame.
This is what winning across time looks like!👏🏾
I don't know why this hasn't received more publicity, but this fifty-foot sculpture was unveiled recently in South Dakota.
It's called 'Dignity' and was done by artist Dale Lamphere to honor the women of the Sioux Nation.
