Revival of Voice of America

Ali Javanmardi assumed responsibility for the Persian service of Voice of America at a sensitive time - an official media outlet affiliated with the U.S. Department of State whose mission is to explain the policies of the American government. With courage and foresight, he moved this media organization out of a state of passivity and neutrality and turned it into an active, influential platform that reflected the real voice of the Iranian people. His achievements in a short period were so remarkable that they elevated Voice of America to a peak of effectiveness unmatched in the long years of the outlet’s activity.
One of the most important changes was the creation of genuine ethnic diversity and real pluralism in the hiring of media staff. Believing firmly in the power of the people inside Iran and completely rejecting personality cults and sectarianism, Javanmardi built an inclusive environment. He gave his producers complete freedom to invite a diverse range of guests with different political orientations—even those who held fascist Pahlavi views. This approach not only brought marginalized and sidelined voices to the center, but also raised intellectual diversity to an unprecedented level and made the content richer and more trustworthy.
Javanmardi launched numerous challenging programs and new items and activated and energized Voice of America’s various platforms. Under his management, the media moved away from tedious repetition and one-voice slogans and became a tool for serious challenge, deep analysis, and the reflection of diverse viewpoints. Broadcast hours increased, production quality rose, and real audiences gravitated toward a media outlet that prioritized honesty and professionalism over blind partisanship.
These transformations were intolerable to the totalitarian Pahlavi current and its affiliated media. Organized smear campaigns, personal attacks, and coordinated pressure against Javanmardi began. Nevertheless, he stood firm alone and without retreat. His steadfastness in the face of these assaults symbolized commitment to democratic principles and service to the people, not surrender to sectarian pressure.
What Javanmardi did for Voice of America is today a source of pride for his organization. He brought this media exactly to its peak at the right moment and resisted the fascist totalitarianism of the Pahlavis and their mercenary media. America, as the cradle of freedom, democracy, and the rule of law, must demonstrate by retaining such managers that it defends its fundamental values. There is no doubt that once this short-term process ends, the ground will be prepared for the powerful return and continued growth of Voice of America’s Persian service. Without question, without Kari Lake’s support these changes would have been impossible, and I have no doubt that Kari Lake’s name will remain forever in the memory of the Iranian people because she stood with the people of Iran.
With this performance, Javanmardi presented a model of responsible and courageous media management—management that believes Iran’s future lies in the hands of the people inside the country and that the media must be their voice, not the loudspeaker of any particular sect or individual.
This legacy will undoubtedly be recorded in the history of contemporary media related to Iran.

Damascus Continues Attacks Despite Ceasefire Agreement

Despite the ceasefire agreement, Damascus-affiliated factions continue their attacks on Kobani and the al-Aqtan prison in Raqqa.

Simultaneously with the shelling of al-Aqtan prison, which houses ISIS militants, these factions targeted the outskirts of the town of Sarrin and attacked the village of Khrouss, south of Kobani, using heavy weapons and artillery. The entire southern and southwestern countryside of Kobani was also subjected to intense artillery shelling, which is ongoing at the time of this report.

We are attaching to this statement videos published by accounts affiliated with these factions, documenting the artillery shelling they are carrying out against areas south of Kobani.

This constitutes a violation of the ceasefire for the second consecutive day. Yesterday alone witnessed 22 violations committed by these factions, including attacks on Kobani, Hasakah, and al-Aqtan prison.

In addition to the military attacks, Damascus continues its policy of collective punishment by cutting off water and electricity to the city of Kobani and preventing fuel deliveries amid harsh winter conditions. At the same time, it continues to cut off water to al-Aqtan prison in Raqqa, posing a direct threat to the lives of detainees and foreshadowing serious humanitarian consequences.

We hold Damascus fully responsible for these ongoing violations and stress that the continued targeting of populated areas and sensitive facilities, including detention centers holding ISIS members, constitutes a grave threat to security and stability. We call on the guarantor states to take immediate and effective measures to halt these violations and ensure full adherence to the ceasefire agreement.
