Media ADHD: bouncing off the walls, can’t sit still.
Real ADHD: I have not moved from this chair in three hours.
I am completely still. Inside my head is a washing machine. I am having four conversations, two of which are arguments from 2019. I look like I’m relaxing.
Long before the roads were paved, Ireland moved to the mountain on the final Sunday of July. Known as Garland Sunday, Reek Sunday, or Bilberry Sunday, it marked Lughnasadh and the fading of the summer famine.
Across every county, communities climbed high ridges, gathered wild berries, visited sacred wells, and danced on the heather. Bare feet walked ancient stone paths up Croagh Patrick, bridging pre-Christian ritual and quiet devotion.
It was the moment the world held its breath before the harvest, a sweet reprieve where youth courted and elders remembered.
Today, fewer feet wear down the mountain tracks. The laughter in the hills has faded into wind, leaving behind a quiet ache for a time when an entire island walked together toward the light.

Rare adjacent Neolithic tombs found in Co Galway (Maree/Prospecthill).
University of Galway archaeologists rediscovered a large court tomb (~30m long, one of the biggest of its type) and uncovered a previously unrecorded portal tomb beside it. Only known Irish site with both types together (court for rituals; portal for burials).
Early Neolithic (~6,000 years old). Linked to Ireland’s first farming communities. Portal tomb has a ~4m-long, 1m-deep, ~14-tonne capstone.
Finds include stone tools, pottery, cremated bone, and a unique small amethyst pendant (unlike any other known in Ireland). Exceptional preservation of early burial deposits.
Excavated this summer by Drs Michelle Comber & Noel McCarthy, students, and community volunteers (Maree Project).

@ZiaYusufUK You are a total fraud. Broadmoor is NOT Butlins. Transferring him protects medically untrained Prison officers from a High Risk inmate. If he’s ever (unlikely) found to be mentally well again, he’ll complete his sentence in Prison. Broadmoor will be indefinite detention.
@judith_croton@DAaronovitch It isn’t in their best interests for people to know the truth…..they prefer people to think being a patient at a high secure MH hospital is a holiday retreat……
Oxford neuroscience proves neurodivergent brains cannot filter ambient workplace chatter, forcing the prefrontal cortex to exhaustively process every single background noise.
“Is that a tiny cello?!” – not quite!
Meet the viola da gamba – a fretted string instrument that was one of the stars of the Renaissance and Baroque.
Have a listen and discover why the viol continues to captivate players today.
