Ever Wonder Where Hantavirus and Ebola Patients Go — And Who Cares for Them?
Over the past three years, I’ve had the privilege of working alongside the extraordinary team at the University of Nebraska Medical Center’s Nebraska Biocontainment Unit (NBU), one of the nation’s leading centers for high-consequence infectious disease preparedness and response.

I recently joined Scott M. Graham and Jim Sparacia on their Gum on Shoe Podcast for a wide-ranging conversation.
We talked about my journey—from being a top-producing mortgage banker, to taking a startup from zero to $65M in annual revenue in just three years, to building and selling two best-in-class management training companies. The common thread throughout: what fighter pilots can teach us about performing under pressure in business.
Scott and Jim are true pros. They ask thoughtful questions, keep things engaging, and make the whole experience a lot of fun. If you’re interested in leadership, decision-making, and operating at a higher level, I think you’ll get something out of this one.

@SenJohnCurtis Thank you @SenJohnCurtis for honoring our constitution as well as the systems of checks and balances that are the foundation of our great democracy.
After years flying F-16s, I’ve learned that great performance always starts with great leadership. Now, I share those lessons with teams and leaders around the world — helping them stay aligned, communicate clearly, and execute at Mach 2.
Here’s a short video giving you a taste of what that looks like in action.
Let’s get your team flying in formation!

I recently had the privilege of interviewing two top experts in Drone Warfare Technology.
You can view the full interview below, and underneath it is a full transcript if you’re more of visual-spatial learner than an auditory one.
I enjoyed it tremendously and found their insights very interesting, especially in the light of recent events in the Ukraine. I hope you enjoy it as well! #dronewarfare #droneinterview #dronespeech

As a wonderful example of a way to honor our fallen soldiers on Memorial Day, I am sharing a video of a fine Marine who takes his friends and co-workers on a 5 mile sunrise hike . At each mile marker, he stops and reads a fallen soldier citation:

Last week, I had the privilege of being interviewed by the New York Times, MSNBC, and ABC News regarding the serious concerns surrounding the use of non-secure channels and personal cell phones to share military attack plans. Yesterday, I had the privilege of being interviewed by The New York Times regarding the recent "Signal Leak" controversy—a topic that strikes at the very heart of Operational Security, or OPSEC. Protecting the safety and success of our men and women in uniform is not a matter of politics; it is a question of competence, professionalism, and above all, trust. Trust that our military leadership adheres to the same high standards they expect of their troops, and that “they have their backs”.
Mistakes happen in any organization, but allowing a journalist access to real-time battle plans is not just a mistake—it is a breach of the fundamental principles of security and accountability. As a proud veteran of the U.S. military, I believe in admitting errors, learning from them, and striving for constant improvement. This is how we honor the values of professionalism and dedication that define our armed forces. This is how we keep our people safe and make sure they all come home from our missions.

I was recently interviewed by Adam Peters, founder of a podcast, newsletter, and community called “The Strategic Veteran”, which is creating an environment that supports vets to ensure their transition to civilian life is smooth and frictionless as possible.
I was able to share some experiences of how I helped start and build Afterburner Seminars, a well known management training company. I spoke about “life on the line” flying 737’s as a United Airlines Pilot, as well as my experience flying an F-16 in homeland defense missions over New York City after the terrorist attacks on 9/11.

An F-35A Lightning II aircraft crashed in Alaska at Eielson Air Force Base on January 28th. Fortunately, the pilot was able to eject and was later evaluated at a hospital and released.
Fairly shortly after the crash, a journalist from NBC Anchorage (“Alaska’s News Source”) contacted me and conducted an interview on my thoughts as to how an investigation of this crash was likely to proceed.
The reporter also wanted to understand how a “Chain of Events” can lead to aviation accidents and my opinion on what might have happened in this case.
