Biomechanics lecturer and practitioner. PhD in Sports Biomechanics (cricket bowling mechanics). Ex-cricketer, coach, and rugby enthusiast. All views are my own.
@QuentinHull@davymark1 only fair that CA has a chance to defend criticism about overuse of “Sports Science”. Beyond workload mgmt, they must then have scientific (biomechanics) explanations/solutions for these ‘niggles’, and for poor swing bowling performance in comparison to other nations

Great to be back out in the field for my side hustle, with the two best Jav throwers in the country. Thanks to legendary coach Angus McEntyre, who’s provided me with @Xsens Dot IMUs to explore with his athletes. Not a bad piece of kit 🤙🏻
Always appreciative of the work @davymark1 and @abcsport do to promote biomechanics and sport science in improving the health of Australia. Thanks for thinking of me for a few comments Dave! @BioPPEx_MQ@Macquarie_Uni https://t.co/yxcbVjdwbB
@davymark1@parkrunAU Excellent write up Dave! Only a small part of gait but hopefully helps a few park runners improve their times and reduce the amount of injuries!
@davymark1@ABCaustralia A great article to show why we haven’t produced another Warne. Our leading coaches still believe that simply spinning the ball more generates swerve. Character is more important in talent ID and coaching, than understanding modern biomechanics.
@davymark1 Sorry I’m late to the party Dave! High time I get properly on board with Twitter and turn my notifications on 🤦♂️. Definitely some great discussions to be had around swing and spin bowling in this country… starting with broadcasting the current science more widely 👍
@adambspencer re: pink ball swing. Moisture makes air heavier/ thicker, which impedes the flow of air across the ball. Otherwise, ideal conditions would be a rain shower! In the UK or at night, it is the lack of turbulent air from sunshine and heat that improves swing.
@davymark1 I did hear this morning that the AOC were aware of this as a possibility some time ago, especially after it already occurring in general pop. Perhaps they had a duty to the athletes to make other arrangements and ensure it didn’t happen?
Fantastic insight into running technique from #TeamNSWIS Biomechanist Aaron Beach, pitting journalist @RubyCornish against elite athlete @JennBlundell 😀 https://t.co/uSsHOhQBBF
