π June is National Employee Wellness Month, and at ACCSES New Jersey, wellness means inclusion.
True workplace wellness goes beyond gym memberships and mindfulness apps. It means creating environments where every employee - including the over 4,000 New Jersey citizens with disabilities our member agencies employ - feels valued, supported, and set up to thrive.
Research consistently shows that employees with disabilities bring resilience, creativity, and dedication to the workplace. When organizations invest in accessible, inclusive wellness programs, they don't just check a box, they unlock the full potential of their workforce.
At ACCSES NJ, we work every day alongside our 36 member agencies to connect people with disabilities to meaningful employment and the support they need to succeed, in work and in life.
When every employee feels supported, valued, and set up to succeed, that's when organizations truly thrive. πΌ

π Member Spotlight: CarePlus NJ / CarePlus Workforce Solutions
Employment isn't just a paycheck, it's purpose, independence, and dignity. CarePlus NJ has understood this since 1996, when they launched CarePlus Workforce Solutions (CPWS), a social enterprise built from the ground up to create real, meaningful jobs for individuals with disabilities and those facing economic hardship.
In nearly three decades of operation, CPWS has helped over 300 individuals find and retain employment, and their workforce remains more than 75% comprised of people with disabilities and economically disadvantaged individuals. That's not a statistic to gloss over. That's a mission made visible every single day.
CPWS runs active, revenue-generating businesses that *are* the training ground:
π§Ί Commercial Laundry Services - Professional-grade laundry services for businesses and public entities, complete with pickup and delivery across New Jersey.
π§Ή Janitorial Services - Comprehensive cleaning and facility maintenance for offices, medical facilities, and senior living communities statewide.
π¨οΈ Office Supplies & Printer Cartridges - A concierge-style supply service offering toner, inkjet cartridges, and everyday office essentials.
β»οΈ Cartridge Recycling - An eco-conscious program through the HP Planet Partners initiative, furthering their community commitment beyond employment.
Employees receive competitive wages, rigorous training, and ongoing professional development, because CarePlus NJ believes in setting people up to thrive, not just get by. π Learn more: https://t.co/Ozg5JZOcDF
π’ Write to Your Legislators about the State Budget π’
Right now, New Jersey's FY2027 budget decisions are being made, and thousands of people with disabilities are counting on us to speak up.
More than 1,800 New Jerseyans with significant intellectual and developmental disabilities rely on Extended Employment, Supported Employment, and Direct Support Professionals to access meaningful work and daily structure. But funding cuts and instability are putting these critical services at risk.
We need the FY2027 budget to:
β Restore and stabilize Extended Employment slot value funding
β Protect Supported Employment reimbursement rates through DVRS programs
β Secure ongoing wage funding for Direct Support Professionals
.
We are calling on advocates, families, providers, and allies to take action.
Your voice can make a difference, and it only takes a minute

π‘ Did you know that employing individuals with disabilities drives real economic power?
ACCSES NJ and its 38 member organizations are proving it every day.

β $82.1M in total economic output
β $42.7M in economic value added
β 1,587 individuals with disabilities directly employed
β $7.5M in federal and state tax revenue generated
From North to South to Central NJ, this impact is being felt statewide.
This isn't just a workforce story. It's an economic one.
When we create pathways for individuals with disabilities to work, everyone benefits; our communities, businesses, and the broader economy.

β¨ Member Success Story Spotlight: Abilities Solutions
The true strength of our association lies in the people who make it happen, the dedicated professionals who bring passion and purpose to their work every day. Today, we're excited to share one of their stories.
We called on our member organizations to help us spotlight the standout staff who make this field so extraordinary. These stories are a powerful reminder of the 'who' behind the work, and the heart, talent, and drive they bring to it:
Yolanda Bergen-Garland
Work Supervisor - Abilities Solutions
"Yolanda Bergen-Garland, Work Supervisor, started at Abilities Solutions in 2014 as a service recipient, completing a Vocational Evaluation followed by an Extended Employment (EE) program. She remained in EE for eight years consistently increasing her technical skills, her productivity, and developing her soft skills. Along the way, her natural supports also strengthened, allowing her to overcome barriers to her employment success.
While in EE, Yolanda often expressed her love of helping other EE clients learn new tasks, and she actively began taking initiative to learn the role of a Work Supervisor. Once an opening became available, she applied without hesitation. Yolanda was hired as a full-time Work Supervisor in 2023. Despite discouraging challenges that have arisen, Yolanda has overcome each obstacle with support from her work family! Yolanda brings a unique perspective to her role, understanding both the client and staff viewpoints. She has continued to grow and evolve as a professional and is an instrumental part of training clients to complete state use contract work. Yolanda is a shining example of how difficult times can reveal inner strength and self-confidence, leading to resilience and professional success."

Employment isn't just a paycheck. It's dignity. It's purpose. It's belonging. π
According to the U.S. Department of Labor, the unemployment rate for people with disabilities is more than twice that of people without disabilities at 8.8% vs. 4.1% (2025 annual averages). That gap isn't acceptable. And it isn't inevitable.
At ACCSES New Jersey, our mission is simple: every purchase has a purpose. We connect government customers to a network of nonprofit agencies that hire talented people with disabilities, delivering quality products and services at competitive prices, while expanding opportunity and access to the American dream.
β Competitive, integrated employment
β A more inclusive workforce
β Real impact with every contract
Progress is being made. But awareness and advocacy still matter, and so does where and how we choose to do business. If your organization is looking to make your procurement dollars count, for people, not just profits, we'd love to connect.

β¨ Member Success Story Spotlight: InspiriTec
We asked our member organizations to help us recognize the incredible staff who make this field exceptional. Today, we're proud to share one of those stories from Inspiritec. It is a reminder of why this work matters and who is doing it, with passion, skill, and heart:
Elsie Rosa
Customer Service Representative
New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs (DCA) Contact Center
I was born in 1955 with polio. My parents, who were from Puerto Rico, told me if I canβt do something one way, I can do it another way. After growing up in the Bronx, I lived in Puerto Rico. I earned an Associateβs and a Bachelorβs degree, and I always kept busy with odd jobs and volunteering. I also developed post-polio syndrome, which is like getting polio again but slower, and went from crutches to a wheelchair. As I aged, I developed diabetes and hypertension. After over 30 years in Puerto Rico, I moved to New Jersey, seeking an employer that would really give me a career and take care of me. InspiriTec has been that employer for me since 2010! I was brought here to start up the Board of Nursing team on our DCA contract. InspiriTec liked my background; I had done receptionist and translator work, so I knew how to talk to people of different backgrounds on the phone, in English and Spanish. I was less familiar with computers, but Iβve learned a lot here! We help nursing professionals in New Jersey through the process of applying for their professional licenses. I like my job, because I get to help people, and I get to be the customer service professional they deserve. I am empathetic and sympathetic, I keep callers informed, I perceive their feelings over the phone, and I just donβt give up on them. As the senior member of the team, Iβve been engrained in β and benefitted from β the culture at InspiriTec. We have good people here who celebrate each other and have each otherβs backs, which makes for a successful work environment. InspiriTec has intervened for me in personal matters, such as helping me get my apartment. People with disabilities can be independent, like me. They come to work because they feel they can do the job, and often prove theyβre the best people for the job. InspiriTec recognizes people with disabilities just need some support to thrive, and I believe other organizations should look to InspiriTec as a model!
