I am Director General of the 🇪🇺 European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association @ACEA_auto, representing the 16 major EU-based car, van, truck and bus makers.
In 2023, the battery-electric car market share reached 14.6%. The adoption of zero-emission #vehicles on a massive scale must go hand in hand with suitable charging networks, stable grids, and affordable and sustainable #electricity prices.
Join Luca de Meo, ACEA President and CEO of Renault Group and Leo Birnbaum, President of Eurelectric and CEO of E.ON at @Eurelectric #EVision event to hear about the synergies needed between European vehicle manufacturers and the power sector to make the transition to climate neutral mobility.

#electricvehicle #EV #evcharging #data
📊 Did you know that almost 15% of car sales in 2022 were battery-electric but that today, only 1.2% of #cars on EU roads are battery-electric?
📄 ACEA’s latest report provides a snapshot of the makeup of vehicles on our roads, telling a very different story from the latest sales data.
With the average vehicle age rising and more #vehicles on our roads than before, find out why policies must be better geared towards replenishing older vehicles with the cleanest and greenest models.

European #truck and #bus manufacturers welcome the political agreement on CO2 standards agreed by trilogue negotiators today 🇪🇺
Failure to reach an agreement could have caused potential uncertainty by pushing back negotiations until the EU’s next mandate.
The revised #CO2 standards undoubtedly set the most ambitious targets globally, especially with respect to 2030.
Target compliance for manufacturers relies on vital enabling conditions such as carbon pricing measures and charging and hydrogen refilling networks suitable for heavy-duty vehicles.
Decarbonising heavy-duty #transport is a shared responsibility involving policy makers and other industries, as well as truck and bus makers.
With less than six years left before the significantly strengthened 2030 target, much more must be done to incentivise transport operators to shift rapidly to zero-emission vehicles 🚛🚌
📣 Iveco Group’s Domenico Nucera to lead Board of Europe’s bus and coach manufacturers 🚌🚍
The EU recently agreed on highly ambitious decarbonisation targets for #buses and #coaches, but the focus must now be on ensuring equally ambitious enabling conditions, explained Nucera.
Manufacturers are continuously working on cleaner and greener models to help cut road #transport CO2 emissions, but we cannot tackle challenges alone.

📢 DAF Trucks’ Harald Seidel to lead Board of Europe’s truck and bus manufacturers.
2024 will be a game-changing year for the European truck industry, with multiple legislative files on the table in the run-up to the EU elections and beyond.
🚛🚌 Truck manufacturers are already investing billions into new battery-electric and hydrogen-powered models, but Seidel emphasised that Europe must get the enabling conditions right to rapidly decarbonise heavy-duty #transport:
🛣️ Charging and hydrogen refilling infrastructure
💶 Effective carbon pricing schemes
🔁 Support measures for transport operators to replace conventional #vehicles with zero-emission models

European auto makers are renowned for producing the greenest, most efficient, and high-tech #vehicles globally🚗🌍 🚛
👩🏭👨🏭 But none of this is possible without the people who produce the vehicles we all rely on, they are the real champions.
Today, we are thrilled to spotlight @toyota_europe's Georgios, an engineer pioneering digital tools for aerodynamically efficient vehicles.
We are proud to support almost 13 million Europeans like Georgios. Together, we are #FutureDriven, securing highly skilled jobs for the future of #mobility.

🇪🇺 🇬🇧 BREAKING: European Commissioners seal deal to extend current EU-UK #battery rules by three years.
If approved by the Council, the agreement would avoid the imposition of a 10% tariff on the export of European-built battery electric #vehicles to the UK.
🤝 An agreement is essential for securing the stability of European electric vehicle manufacturing as it faces new global competition and moves into a critical phase of its green transformation.

Today, the @Europarl_EN voted for a more realistic approach to Euro 7, compared to what the European Commission put forward last year. Euro 7 still comes with a heavy price tag and at a very critical juncture in the industry’s transformation 🚗🚛🚌🚐
“There can be no doubt about the industry’s commitment to improving air quality. That is why the auto industry has already poured extensive resources into the latest Euro pollutant standards, Euro 6/VI,”
💬 Sigrid de Vries, @ACEA_DG: “These investments have paid off, as exhaust emissions are barely measurable today.”
➡️ACEA now calls on policymakers to ensure that realism prevails during the trilogue negotiations, and not to let a disproportionate #Euro7 derail progress already made by manufacturers.

Wonderful to have joined Martin Daum for an inspiring conversation on what it takes to decarbonise #transport and thrive in Europe as a global industry.
Why does it take more than zero-emission vehicles for #sustainable transportation?
In the latest episode of his podcast, our CEO #MartinDaum addresses this topic together with Sigrid De Vries, Director General of the @ACEA_auto.

🇪🇺 Europe needs a proportionate Euro 7 that balances environmental concerns and industrial competitiveness 🌍🧑🏭
#Euro7 poses significant difficulties for manufacturers, which come on top of a historic transformation and an extraordinarily challenging economic environment leading to unforeseen costs:
➡️ persistent semiconductor shortages
➡️ disruptions to chip supplies
➡️ inflationary pressures
➡️ soaring energy prices
➡️ consumer demand trailing pre-pandemic levels
In these challenging circumstances and faced with increasingly fierce competition from other global regions, policy makers must also safeguard European industrial competitiveness.
🚗🚐🚛🚌 Replacing older #vehicles with the latest Euro 6 models, together with rapid electrification, offers far greater benefits both for the environment and industrial competitiveness. A disproportionate Euro 7 risks derailing the progress already made by manufacturers.

"It’s not just about having a thriving battery industry in Europe, but a thriving auto industry in Europe & UK. We make it very clear we would like to see the rules of origin temporarily libralised to policymakers both sides of the channel"
Sigrid de Vries @ACEA_auto#SMMTGlobal
"We really need to secure a level playing field for sustainably made European vehicles by defending fair & free trade rules & ensuring access to critical supplies"

🚨 "The @EP_Environment vote is an improvement over the @EU_Commission proposal, but still falls short in key aspects."
🚗🚛🚐 “We have long been advocating for #Euro7 targets and testing conditions that do not make #vehicles unaffordable nor jeopardise industry competitiveness – for little or no environmental benefit,” Sigrid de Vries, @ACEA_DG.
