All around us are people who are highly successful. They’re creative, focused, disciplined, committed, friendly, hard-working, collaborative, and want to do the best they can. For many, these qualities were instilled through learning an instrument and being in music ensembles.

Music isn’t a luxury. Music isn’t disposable. Music isn’t expendable. Music isn’t just for some. Music isn’t extra. Music isn’t a waste of money. Music isn’t a waste of time. Music isn’t any of these things. Music is fundamental to our daily lives. Music is a part of who we are.

Music lessons are important. 1:1 lessons are important. Small group lessons are important. Ensemble rehearsals are important. Concerts and performances are important. They’re all important. Music and Music Education are important. They’re not second-class. They’re important.

@JonnyUttley Is IB Diploma a possibility in your area? Grade 6 should be enough for IB HL and definitely enough for SL. Have seen many students do really well at IB even though gcse Igcse grades were grade C or sometimes less. Of course A level has more content than IB SL. 🤔

This can’t be stressed enough and it begins with the critical word “support” so let’s ban that ugly word “admin”! Any organisation (not just schools) values it’s support staff! As for shadowing - in both directions - what a great idea! #supportstaff #nonteachingstaff #teamwork

A member of my department told the students she'd be leaving in July.

A group of year 10 students came to me with 28 signatures petitioning for her to stay.

I had to explain to the students that their 64-year-old teacher is going to retire.

Still, kids valuing teachers.
