A 501(c)(4) statewide advocacy organization jointly formed by ACLU affiliates in CA. We fight to protect civil rights & civil liberties @ the state capitol.

Throughout the campaign, supporters worked tirelessly to bring attention to the racist history, inhumane treatment, and need for change within California’s carceral system.
We thank each and every Californian who joined us—volunteers, voters, advocates.
Though we didn’t get the outcome we hoped for, this hard-fought campaign brought the urgent conversation on prison slavery to the forefront.
We made important strides since this campaign began, placing rehabilitation & dignity at the heart of California’s dialogue on justice.
Prop 6 sought to improve public safety & break the cycle of incarceration through rehabilitation. It received widespread backing from a coalition of diverse voices, incl. labor unions, civil rights advocates, law enforcement, faith communities, & influencers across the country.
With the unfettered ability to buy our sensitive data, Trump could go after communities of color, people opposing his policies, and anyone seeking gender-affirming or reproductive care.
Biden must act NOW.

As we celebrate Veterans Day today, we think of the twenty-five veterans and their families that need us to act now.
Take action and tell the Biden administration to protect our veterans from deportation: https://t.co/Prg7iZHSot
Over the past three years, 120 deported veterans have finally returned home to the United States.
But without a pardon from President Biden, most of these veterans will soon be at risk of deportation again by the upcoming Trump administration.
We are ready to fight back against attacks on transgender rights with the full force of the ACLU during the second Trump administration.

Our nation is stronger than one man or one political party — no matter how determined they are to upend our democracy.

Through the hateful rhetoric and harmful actions of the previous Trump administration, they have made their intentions clear. Alongside @ACLU_CalAction, @sdicACLU & @ACLU_SoCal we have diligently prepared for this outcome.
At the ACLU, we play the long game. We've been here for 105 years, through 19 presidents.
Once again, we will deploy our millions of activists and card-carrying members — alongside our 2,200 staff spanning every state, DC, and Puerto Rico — to ensure that erosions of civil rights or civil liberties will be hard-fought and hotly contested.
One week into Trump’s presidency, we were the first organization to challenge his Muslim ban. And when the administration sought to include a citizenship question on the 2020 census, the ACLU took that fight to the Supreme Court and won. Our litigation also stopped the inhumane practice of separating immigrant families.
President-elect Trump has been crystal clear about plans to deport one million immigrants every year. Past attempts at immigration raids have shown there is no way to deport one million immigrants without violating due process and engaging in racial discrimination.
President-elect Trump will keep his promise to target the 'enemy within,' a.k.a. anyone who disagrees with him.
He is dead serious about seeking retribution against political opponents and deploying federal law enforcement to shut down protests.
But we have a 105-year track record of fighting such abuses of power.
BREAKING: The AP just called the 2024 presidential election for Donald Trump.
We’re clear-eyed about the chaos and destruction a second Trump administration will cause to our nation.
That’s why we’re done with handwringing, admiring the problem, or waiting anxiously to see which unlawful action President-elect Trump will take on Day One. We are ready to take action the minute Trump takes the oath of office.
