We call on all people – especially our state officials and legislators – to work with us in building a firewall for freedom that will protect and advance the safety and wellbeing of all Californians.
Through the hateful rhetoric and harmful actions of the previous Trump administration, they have made their intentions clear. Alongside @ACLU_CalAction, @sdicACLU & @ACLU_SoCal we have diligently prepared for this outcome.
Our advocates have worked to create a roadmap for protecting civil rights and civil liberties in this outcome. It will take everything we've got to fight back, and we are ready.
Some voters report long lines at some polling places in CA. If you're in line to vote in person, stay in line. If you're there to drop off your filled-out ballot, you do NOT need to wait in line: just head to a ballot drop box.

After our report exposed stark educational disparities for Indigenous students in Humboldt County, we partnered with @NCIDC to create a new position tasked with building relationships between schools and Native families.
“Had Prop 47 not passed, I doubt I’d be sitting in my office, writing this blog on my laptop that proudly displays an ACLU ‘Get a Warrant’ sticker.”

We’re calling on Sen. Alex Padilla to oppose ICE’s expansion efforts, which would waste taxpayer dollars and unnecessarily harm immigrants and their communities.

Immigration detention centers have a history of abuse, medical neglect, and complete disregard for the dignity of people in their custody. Efforts to expand this cruel and inhumane system have no place in CA.
“Without necessarily realizing it, voters are now deciding whether to double down on three strikes, and in so doing whether to saddle themselves with steeper jail and prison costs and a larger incarceration footprint…”

"Native American history IS American history"
For over a century, tens of thousands of Native American children were forcibly taken from their families under the Federal Indian Boarding School program explicitly to destroy their cultural connections to their lands and tribes.
Meaningful healing requires concrete action: investing in Indigenous-led education, protecting Native students' right to express their cultural identities at school, and fully respecting tribal sovereignty.
