A Clinically Orientated antimicrobial Resistance Network
Patient-focused AMR surveillance
Led by @MORUBKK, @OUCRU_Vietnam, @TropMedOxford
Funding @Wellcome_AMR
Welcome to the ACORN twitter account.
ACORN is a clinical AMR surveillance project running in Asia and Africa, led by @PaulTurnerMicro@hrogier / @MORUBKK @OUCRU_Vietnam @TropMedOxford. Funded by @Wellcome_AMR.

ACORN2 study in @GlobalHealthBMJ confirms a low blood culture BC yield in hospitalised kids in LMICs (4.5%) with a 2x higher contamination rate (9%). For which groups s/d LMIC healthcare workers develop protocols to optimise BC uptake in hospitalised kids?

ACORN does not have much interest in politics.
However, as a result of recent events, we have decided that Bluesky might be a better place for us to share information.
Please do follow us at https://t.co/GkkL5C0ZvB for more AMR updates.

Hello from ACORN
We are delighted to share our first results preprint, covering the >40,000 clinical infection episodes and BSI / AMR data captured by our 19 sites across 9 African and Asian countries

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is one of our greatest global health challenges.
But gaps in the data mean it can be difficult to understand the true scale of the threat.
Our latest explainer video, featuring @DrKambugu and @PaulTurnerMicro, has all you need to know ⤵️ #WAAW2024
Hello AMR friends: the ACORN account is alive and well...we've regained access after many frustrating months!
ACORN2 surveillance data is being written up as we speak: expect GRAM-challenging manuscripts on AMR burden, mortality, and economic impact over the coming months 😀
ACORN network manager Jill Hopkins presented an update of surveillance activities at the recent Oxford Tropical Network meeting in Bangkok
Now >36,000 patients enrolled with 2/3 having at least one blood culture collected

Great work from @phoebwill and colleagues on the high rates of AMR in paediatric infections
Highlights limited treatment options and generally poor quality of surveillance data

Implementing the new #SEDRILIMS in a microbiology laboratory from Sierra Leone. The system is free, easy to use and can be customised by the users for their specific needs and tests. Also makes statistics so much easier.
ACORN is expanding!
The Philippine General Hospital in Manila will soon come online as a semi-independent member of the network, focussing on neonatal and paediatric infections.
Great to meet the team for training this week!
@Wellcome_AMR @MORUBKK
The @MORUBKK-@OUCRU_Programme@wellcometrust-funded ACORN project begins Yr 2 of collecting clinical & microbiology data on community & hospital-acquired infections to assess #AMR's impacts on hospitalisation duration & mortality in LMICs

Version 2.6.0 of the ACORN app is now out
This update:
✅Fixes an issue with bar colours for the AMR plots
➡️Updates AST interpretations to 2023 versions of CLSI (M100-S33) / EUCAST (V13)
➡️Identifies patients without microbiology lab data, to help with local data quality checks
And we're done
The 1st ACORN AMR Network meeting was a great success
It was wonderful to hear updates from our 17 surveillance sites & to work through challlenges
Lots of ideas for the future: looking forward to workng on these in the coming months
Safe travels home everyone!
A brief virtual interlude to start the ACORN AMR Network meeting day 3
Q&A with Olivier Celhay, our RShiny dashboard developer
Nice to go through some of the more complicated AMR reporting functionality of the dashboard to ensure optimal use at the sites
After an excellent second day of discussions, it's time for an ACORN Network team dinner at the aptly named Eathai.
Final day tomorrow, where we will have presentations from the Wellcome AMR team, ADVANCE-ID, AMASS, SEDRI-LIMS, and other project partners.
Just one week to go until the first ACORN AMR Surveillance Network meeting in Bangkok, Thailand.
Very much looking forward to welcoming teams from across Africa and Asia to discuss progress and plans.
Travel safe everyone!
Apologies team ACORN - app v2.5.7 has a bug which necessitates an urgent update.
Apparently an updated html engine is not playing well with our selector widget.
Please update to v2.5.8 as soon as you can to get back to enjoying a painfree dashboard experience.
