Don’ts
1⃣ Don’t refer for imaging unless
I. Symptoms of sinister pathology
II. Symptoms of specific-serious pathology with time sensitivity, e.g., new foot drop
III. Exceptional cases, e.g., fast track NRB clinics
2⃣ Don’t refer for bloods unless you can interpret them, and it influences YOUR management.
3⃣ Don’t offer abstract, random exercises unless couched within a particular framework and it's welcomed.
4⃣Don’t expect to have a completely rounded view of a person - values, expectations, goals. You may ask, but often people will say they don’t have any expectations (time to think).
5⃣Don’t make your referral six pages long. If you have a proforma, use that but keep it concise.
6⃣Don’t place expectations on the referring clinician. 'You will get a scan', 'you will get an injection'. If you do discuss options, everything is principle and based on further consultation.
Most people think of patient facing roles being only Doctors and Nurses.
However, there’s a whole other group called Allied Health Professionals (AHPs).
There’s 14 groups that work side by side with us to provide the best care for patients.
