We are a grassroots group of older people & families advocating for effective regulation, transparency, better staff levels, and human rights in aged care.
The gulf between the 79 brave female players refusing to accept the misogyny & non-consensual contact & the spineless, mostly males clapping Rubiales’ refusal to resign, is cavernous.
That includes @UEFA as Rubiales is VP.
There can be no gender equality without basic safety.
There is a need for financial transparency across aged care , and as The Guardian reports larger church based NFPs too #agedcarecrisis#agedcarereform https://t.co/O7DFI9TG5g
Aged care is perhaps the most conspicuous example of the ultimate costs and disruption of policy neglect, writes @JohnRHewson.
Successive governments have promised to provide quality aged care. Basically they just never quite get around to it. #Insiders https://t.co/SBFYOYYRZO
@CarersAustralia is asking about the wellbeing of #Carers in this National Survey. Here’s another opportunity to shed a light on how tough carers have it and asking for help - we’re pushing for more respite
ATTENTION: The 2023 Carer Wellbeing Survey is open until Friday 31 March 2023. The annual survey is undertaken by @CarersAustralia, the Department of Social Services, & the @UniCanberra.

Thanks to @janet_rice & her team for organising this wonderful Roundtable in Canberra today. Human rights are critical to the Aged Care Act & #agedcare care services. We were privileged to be a part of it along with so many other great organisations @CarersCircle@age_no_barrier
Wonderful to host this Aged Care Roundtable today, bringing together an engaged and energetic group of community stakeholders and advocates to discuss how we can further a human rights based approach to legislation and caring for older Australians.

the @AgedCareQuality recording ‘Site audits in residential aged care’ is available outlining how they monitor the quality of residential aged care services and what assessors look for https://t.co/NEe89c1VC5

Some good news in #agedcare "The Fair Work Commission has ruled that a 15% pay rise for aged care workers needs to be introduced in one hit from July this year, rebuking the federal government’s plans to split the increase over two years." https://t.co/YyDFeSXFZU
“A comment on a Facebook page is not going to get anywhere… whereas the submission goes straight to government...it’s on the record” Thank you @AgedcarenewsAus & @biancaroberts88 for a timely reflection as we close out the year https://t.co/8tnnrvpTNx #agedcare#reform#auspol
And, as many councils exit aged care we also have to ask, is this an unintended consequence of aged care reforms or is it intentional? Interested to hear comments on what is happening in other states.
A mass exodus from aged care community support services is underway among Victorian municipalities.
This article and its links explain why. https://t.co/KLiVWxwKs1 #agedcare
So, the question is: Who then takes responsibility in providing reliable services to frail older persons in the community? Who is legally liable for failures of care??
What are the terms required of community care providers when they are "appointed" by the federal government??
My mom just turned to me and said, “I hope I never get Alzheimer’s.”
I put my arm around her and said, “If you get it, I promise to take care of you, and love you through it.”
...
She has had #Alzheimers for years 😭😩😢💔
The pay rises announced last week are welcome but not representative of all workers on aged care. Common sense is needed to stop the exodus from aged care workforce
The Fair Work Commission has delayed a decision on awarding aged care pay rises to whole sections of the workforce. While nurses, AINs, personal care workers and home care workers have been awarded a 15% pay rise, no decision has been made yet on lifestyle or support workers.
At last! "In a lengthy decision...the Fair Work Commission said an interim increase of 15 % was 'plainly justified' with the decision establishing the 'existing minimum rates do not properly compensate employees for the value of their hard work'" https://t.co/kyCqZvzkFm #agedcare
Our #agedcare survey found significant public support in key areas of quality care, workforce, transparency, & accountability. But we also found many people were not across the key issues older Australians and their support network face. Read the report https://t.co/GzBw1dj1BY
Jennifer Westacott on #insiders saying demarcation is blocking innovation in aged care? Bollocks! Do you want untrained people issuing meds? Treating wounds? #agedcare needs enough well paid staff to provide basic care standards. Plus, innovation starts with a new aged care act.
