Was up until 3 AM last night because I was reading The Front Desk by @kellyyanghk for my Adolescent Lit Class and I COULD NOT put it down! I became so invested with the characters that I felt like they were my own friends! Truly an amazing book that emphasizes diversity. #gccedu

Up to 20% of school-age children can be affected by chronic medical conditions. These students will be in our classrooms and we need to know the best way to support them with different types of assistive tech, specific seating, etc. #gccedu

Today in class we learned about different emotional and behavioral disabilities and how we as teachers can help our students with these disabilities by understanding our students #gccedu

Today in class, we learned about different technology tools that we can use to help students with disabilities. One tool that I can use is Newsela, which is a tool that allows students to adjust the reading level of an article while still maintaining the content. #gccedu

Today in class, we learned about implementing assistive technology into our classrooms. Two things that I think could be helpful in my future classroom are Ginger, which helps students with dyslexia, and Epic, which allows access to 25,000 books, quizzes, etc. #gccedu #specialed

I loved learning about TASH and how they advocate for people with significant disabilities. Their main goal of creating quality lives for the people that they advocate is so inspiring! #gccedu #specialeducation

Individuals with disabilities have goals for their life, too, and the ultimate goal of transition services is to have a better quality of life and independence. #gccedu

One main takeaway that I have from today’s class is how critical of a role the entire family plays in a child’s early intervention process. Children are around their families the most and learn from them first. #gccedu

Today we learned about effectively working with parents and building relationships with them. One takeaway I had was that we as teachers have to be advocates for our students and what will help them learn best. #gccedu

Today in class I learned how fair doesn't always mean equal. Fair may look differently for each student, and it is up to us as teachers to find a way to be fair to all of our students needs and help them reach their full potential. #gccedu

The biggest takeaway that I have from the lesson on teaching Latino students is the importance of connecting the known to the unknown. In other words, connecting something they know from their culture to new content material. #gccedu #EDUC203

One thing I learned from the Asian Indian lesson is that it is important to try to learn a few of their culture’s words from their native language to show interest in the students and their culture. #gccedu #EDUC203

The biggest takeaway that I have from the lesson on teaching students in the LGBTQ+ community is to never assume. We need to always respect our students, their identities, and their families for who they are. #gccedu #EDUC203

One thing that I learned from the lecture on teaching homeless students is that homeless students often come to school tired and hungry, and as teachers, we need to show compassion towards these students and help them in any way that we can. #gccedu #EDUC203
