Who freakin' Dey.
Saturday night, the #Bengals threw out the uncertainty of scouting, drafting, and developing with the No. 10 pick in the draft.
Instead, they pushed their chips to the middle of the table to acquire a known commodity. Ready for this? A force multiplier. An elite interior defensive player.
Hell. Yeah. Talk about a tiger changing its stripes. Talk about an organization throwing caution through a hurricane. I think I felt the ground shake in NKY when the news broke last night.
Finally, the Bengals possess a defensive player that causes opposing offensive coordinators to pause the tape, rewind, watch again, and then lose sleep. Lawrence has pressure numbers that defy logic. NFL analyst Warren Sharp notes Dexter Lawrence has 108 pressures since 2022 from the nose tackle spot. No one else has more than 32. My Butler match calculates that as 76 MORE pressures than ANYONE else. Whaaaaaaat?
Lawrence doesn't just impact, he wreaks havoc. And he's not putting out on the 18th hole of his career. He's only 28. He makes the defensive line better. He makes every aspect of this defense better.
Does it reek of job saving desperation from Duke Tobin, Zac Taylor and Al Golden? Maybe.
Does it show the power of an unhappy and impatient Burrow? Probably. Bottom line, Bengals ownership and the front office stopped worrying about the future and doubled down on the present.
The Bengals could have played it by their worn and tattered book and rolled the dice on the 10th pick. Maybe Caleb Downs. Maybe Jermod McCoy. But book this: Nobody at No. 10 was going to be Lawrence this season. No way. No how. Over the next 10 seasons? Eh, we can debate, if you like. I'll be over here, worrying about Week 1 and the 17 games ahead this season.
The most important year of Joe Burrow's career should always be this year. Not next year. Not two years from now. Last night, the Bengals turned the now into one big, eye rubbing, WOW!
Burrow famously said the Super Bowl window is his career. After three straight seasons of missing the playoffs, the Bengals squeegeed that window. This morning, I rubbed my eyes and looked out that window. I see a Super Bowl trophy, can't you? What a sight ladies and gentlemen, what a sight. It's beautiful. Most importantly, it's much more attainable than 24 hours ago. That's how it should always be.
Talk about a franchise narrative flipper.
Can I get a Who Dey?

#Giants star Dexter Lawrence is being traded to the #Bengals in a pre-Draft blockbuster that includes the No. 10 pick heading to the Giants, per me and @MikeGarafolo.
NYG gets premium draft compensation, Cincy gets a lynchpin, while Sexy Dexy gets a new, big-money extension.

Arguably the most aggressive offseason on one side of the ball in franchise history

If Joe doesn’t have one INT they win but man the short term memory on the TL. This team dropped games they should’ve won all season. It was over when Joe went down in Week 2 but still had opportunities due to a bad year in the AFC North. This season wasn’t fun
