As a proud adopted Stocktonian, I, like many others, was appalled at the Home Secretary's insult to our borough.
Really grateful to @TheHouseMag for publishing my "love letter" to Stockton on Tees 👇
Let me be clear on the measures in our Bill:
The Tories left schools haemorrhaging teachers.
We're restoring teaching as an attractive profession.
That means a core expectation of good pay & conditions, with the ability to go further.
In other words a floor, but no ceiling.
Pleased to see two friends still in politics awarded knighthood @SadiqKhan and damehood @EmilyThornberry though it's about time we had a system to recognize people without involving the disfunctional and outdated royal family.
Under Labour Mayor Chris Cooke, Middlesbrough Council has been taken out of govt intervention.
But after fourteen years of Conservative austerity, the Spending Review must not simply end, but unwind austerity - so our councils can properly serve our communities.

Yet another staggering turn in the story of the South Tees Development Corporation and Teesworks which has cost the taxpayer more than £500m in grants, alongside £450m in expected borrowing. 1/2.
“Jacqui, Rwanda was working”
“In fourteen years you weren’t able to get the system working”
Kevin Hollinrake and Jacqui Smith disagree over the previous Conservative government’s Rwanda bill and immigration strategy

Today I welcomed the announcement of new funding for young people's jobs in Tees Valley.
Ensuring our brilliant Job Centre Plus staff can focus more on skills and employment opportunities will help our young people into good, secure, well-paid jobs.
In a major development the International Criminal Court has issued warrants of arrest for PM Benjamin Netanyahu and Defence Minister Yoav Gallant.
It found reasonable grounds of responsibility for crimes against humanity.

The same newspapers who scream increases in the national minimum wage will damage the economy, are happy to go to the barricades for a tax break for Clarkson, Dyson & friends.
I’ll fight tirelessly for children in kinship care & the carers who love them — you won't be forgotten by this government.
We are already acting, having announced £44 million to support carers at the Budget.
We know there's a long way to go, we're determined to deliver change.
Back at Stockton Globe tonight for the Rhod Gilbert show - an amazing venue delivered by our Labour led Stockton Borough Council - a project the local Tories wanted to axe.
Tory MPs still champion their record on education. I wonder which bit they are most proud of:
Crumbling schools?
Falling standards?
A 'lose, lose, lose' SEND system?
Disadvantaged children lagging behind?
Labour will fix the foundations & break down barriers to opportunity.
🙌Today is a landmark moment in public health: The #TobaccoAndVapesBill returns to Parliament with strong support from cross-party voters, health charities, and MPs.
ASH welcomes this powerful step towards a #SmokefreeUK!
