“He is not my friend”
“I tell him what he doesn’t want to hear”
“No yes-men around. They bring no value”
Now…I see why AJ is so polished and disciplined at a young age.
My 2026-2027 USF MBB starting roster prediction 🏀
My breakdown:
Both Sonny Wilson and AJ Dancler put together very impressive seasons at their previous schools. After watching some Sonny Wilson film, I genuinely think he could contend for AAC Player of the Year.
Despite being a freshman, I think Jayden Johnson has a real shot to start. He brings great size and while his game isn’t flashy, everything looks effortless and controlled. There’s a reason he was the #2 ranked senior in Kentucky and one of the highest-rated recruits in USF history. It also appears he’s grown physically, as his Hudl profile lists him around an inch taller and nearly 20 pounds heavier than some of his older recruiting profiles such as On3.
Garrett Johnson had an inconsistent year, but flashed serious potential with multiple 17-18 point games and should help the frontcourt immediately.
I currently project Zayden High as the starting center due to his experience advantage over Tierfing Diawara. UNC fans didn’t seem to think very highly of him, but hopefully he proves them wrong at USF.
Some other notes:
USF may have one of the best guard rooms in the AAC despite some frontcourt concerns. Chris Mack has also spoken extremely highly of Chris Davis Jr. and I expect him to make a major jump this season. We also have multiple players who already proved themselves at the lower-major level.
Men's basketball transfer portal ends tomorrow, April 21st.
Bulls have not added anyone since AJ Dancler on April 16th.
Bulls have added 7 players so far.
What needs are left?
Here’s a breakdown of the seven new players:
AJ Dancler (Junior Guard, 6'2", from Coastal Carolina)
Standout scorer who started all 32 games and averaged 15.6 PPG, 5.5 RPG, and 2.1 APG. Named Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week twice. Brings immediate production and leadership.
Andrej Shoshkikj (Freshman Guard, 6'2", from Stony Brook)
Elite shooter who started 21 games and posted 10.7 PPG with rare 50/45/96 shooting splits (one of only 12 D-I players in NCAA history to hit those marks in a season). CAA All-Rookie Team selection; adds shooting and youth.
Mike James (Junior Guard, 6'5", from Vanderbilt)
Former four-star recruit (class of 2021) with one year of eligibility left. Limited minutes last season (1.5 PPG, 2.0 RPG in 10.6 MPG) due to injury history, but brings size, athleticism, and high-upside potential in the backcourt.
Zayden High (Sophomore Forward, 6'10", from North Carolina)
Former top-100 national recruit. Limited role at UNC (3.4 PPG, 2.8 RPG in 9.1 MPG) but offers length, athleticism, and frontcourt depth.
Sonny Wilson (Junior Guard, 6'1", from Toledo)
High-volume scorer who averaged 17 PPG and 4.6 APG last season with 10 20-point games. Earned All-MAC Second Team honors and was viewed as a top-25 point guard in the portal. Adds proven playmaking and scoring punch.
Garrett Johnson (Redshirt Junior Forward, 6'8", from George Washington)
Versatile wing/forward who averaged 11.4 PPG (on 40% shooting) in a prior season at GW before missing 2024-25 with a torn ACL (plus earlier injury history). Brings size and experience when healthy.
Chris Davis Jr. (Freshman Guard, 6'4", from College of Charleston)
Three-star recruit who followed Coach Mack from Charleston. Averaged 7.6 PPG and shot nearly 39% from three in 18.3 MPG. Provides young depth and familiarity with the new staff.
Welcome to Bulls Nation!
AJ hails from Indianapolis by way of Southport High School. He was a record setter setting school all time records for points and 3s.
AJ transfers from Coastal Carolina.
He was the team leader last season for points at 15.1 ppg, 3 pt field goal % at 40.4%, and assists with 101.
He has a BIG future at USF!
Guard U! Holy smokes! We are absolutely LOADED at the 1 & 2 rn.
Another massive haul for Coach Mack. A few key bigs away from really putting the conference on notice!
