@thejackhopkins I’m a citizen of Australia & I see your Supreme Court as aiding & abetting the destruction of democracy in the US. The world should worry as US anti abortion laws are one step away from slavery. To own a woman’s uterus is to own a woman. The US is becoming a misogynistic horror.
@KosSamaras Visited Melbourne last weekend. Fantastic place. Beautiful weather and people everywhere in outdoor cafes and restaurants. Amazing atmosphere. I’d heard the negative criticism - a head scratcher. The place is thriving. Politically minded attacks rather than facts.
@catholicjono@lesstenny I think Labor are safe in Graindler & Sydney in short term but vulnerable to Greens or popular local progressive independent over longer term. I expect Albo to win both his seat & the next election & then retire during the term. As to who takes over, ALP are spoiled for choice.
@KosSamaras Next election will show us where the country sits. Nothing I’ve seen in last 24 months suggests LNP have anything new to offer. Picking a candidate based on political lineage rarely seems to work. But don’t see much suggesting Labor growing their vote much either.
@DougCameron51 Disagree. No dispute that nuclear subs are costly & complex. But our coast is too long to be effectively defended with diesel boats. We should’ve started building nuke boats in ‘60s. This’s our first decent defence policy in 80yrs. Pollies ducked the issue for too long.
@pertina1@colonelhogans Arthur Caldwell & the Labor Party of the 1950s & ‘60s were not progressive which probably explains why they stayed out of power for 23yrs. They They were white, male misogynist racists for the most part. White Australia policy still a Labor platform into the 60s. Progressive? Not
@BarackObama In Australia, Labor passed Medicare (universal healthcare) in 1983. It’d tried 10yrs earlier but that effort was repealed by conservatives. Luckily Labor kept power for 13yrs - ‘83 - ‘96. When conservatives regained power MediCare was entrenched & they feared repealing it.
@KosSamaras I’m a Tasmanian in Franklin electorate. Labor have been having a turf war the last 3 yrs - why O’Byrne is an independent & federal intervention for 2 yrs. Virtually no difference between ALP/Lib policies. Bec White is a vote killer. This election hasn’t solved anything.
@michael_timbs@TurnbullMalcolm The proposal to just let the market “decide” about nuclear is rubbish. In the event of an accident - certain to happen despite protestations of the industry, the results are so catastrophic that no industry is capable of baring the costs, leaving it to the community. No to ☢️
@0bsfromafar We’re in Tassie & got solar last year. Huge difference. We’re on tanks for water so pumps run 24/7 which adds to bill so solar’s been fantastic. Biggest objection LNP have to solar is that it works. Cheap, simple, clean & safe - unlike nuclear.
@KosSamaras Nuclear’s expensive. UK’s nuclear industry’s an expensive white elephant. Solar is cheap, simple & free. Base load power. What are we building again 🤔 cars? No. Ships? No. LNP probably shouldn’t have shut everything down that could use NP.
@PrezLives2022 Really makes you wonder how amazing America could be if Democrats controlled both houses and the presidency. Decent health care & education, action on climate and support for countries standing up to bullies & dictatorship. Go Joe, go Democrats.
@grumpyoldfool62 @johannisvanleeu I think we’ll have a general election later this year - probably Oct/Nov. I suspect a local independent has a better chance of taking Cook from the LNP but they will only run in a general as by elections are fiendishly expensive - likewise Labor. But we’ll probably run dead
@ellendavismee@MFWitches I don’t think it did. The YES campaign failed for a whole bunch of reasons
1) They ran a terrible campaign which never addressed legitimate concerns that people held
2) They had nearly 2 yrs to sell it & couldn’t.
3) Political in nature & motivated by poor policy delivery.
@Hartley_Patter@RpsAgainstTrump Haley may be the last Republican standing if Trump’s legal woes finish him. I actually think Haley would do better against Biden than Trump will - which doesn’t mean I like her vision, just that she provides a clear alternative. I agree that the Dems could win all 3 C, Sen, P
@Kingkiko61@CalltoActivism Being related to Hollywood insiders offers very little - unlike being the son of a NY real estate mogul. Success in Hollywood is ultimately determined by the public - we vote with our money because we like what they do. But you can’t succeed in Hollywood without talent.
@RhyllMcMaster@thejackhopkins These guys didn’t get rich betting on losers. They could pay off all his debts and gift him another billion & all it would achieve would be to lose A LOT of money. Even unencumbered Trump will lose in November. He’s a con artist & grifter who the voters are wise to.
