Looking for a hiking buddy, or adventure companion? Meet Ginger.
As one of our longest residents, Ginger is full of energy, loves being outdoors, and is ready to share her life with an active family. She’s waited far too long for her chance.
Could you be the one she’s been waiting for?

BEVERLY UPDATE:
After being found in critical condition, Beverly spent the last couple of days receiving emergency veterinary care. She underwent diagnostics, received IV fluids, medications, deworming treatment, pain management, and around-the-clock monitoring as the veterinary team worked to stabilize her.
Her medical bills have already exceeded $800, and while she still has a road to recovery ahead of her, we’re relieved to share that she’s feeling well enough to be up, walking around, and enjoying some fresh air today.
Seeing her standing on her own four paws after everything she’s been through is a reminder of why we fight so hard for these dogs.
Thank you to everyone who has followed her story, shared her posts, and reached out with support. Every kind word, share, and donation helps make cases like Beverly’s possible.
If you’d like to help, message us. Any donation will go directly toward Beverly’s care and any of our dogs in need.
“We weren’t even going to pick her up, but there were people recording the situation.”
Those were some of the first words exchanged when we met Beverly.
Yesterday, two officers arrived at our doors and opened the back seat of their vehicle. Inside was a young puppy, whining, trying to stand, and clearly in pain.
We have no room or funding to take on another puppy, especially an emergency case. But the moment we saw her face and the condition she was in, we knew we couldn’t turn her away.
We asked the officers to rush her to the veterinarian and told them we would cover the costs. There was hesitation, and for a moment, we feared the worst: that they’d refuse to take her, or dump her. Thankfully, Beverly is now receiving the care she deserves.
After being examined, Beverly was found to have significant soreness and injuries from being hit by a car. Initial X-rays suggested she may have suffered three broken ribs, but follow-up imaging brought much better news: what appeared to be fractures were actually additional bones in her system, and her ribs look good.
Right now, the biggest concern is what she had been eating to survive on the streets. X-rays showed large amounts of sand and bones in her digestive tract, and the veterinary team is monitoring her closely for a possible intestinal blockage as she works to pass everything safely.
The good news is that Beverly has already started making progress. She’s now taking slow steps on her own. She’s still very sore and uncomfortable, but seeing her get up and move around by herself is a huge relief.
If she can get through the blockage concern and continue improving, the veterinarians expect her to make a full recovery.
For now, we’re keeping our fingers crossed for our new intake. She has already been through more than any puppy should have to endure, but she’s finally safe, finally receiving medical care, and finally getting the chance she deserves.
Welcome to ADLA, Beverly.

El Salvador has announced its First National Rescue Plan for street dogs and cats. A major step forward for animal welfare and public care.
The initiative aims to rescue, protect, and provide long-term support for thousands of abandoned animals, working alongside veterinarians, rescuers, and existing programs like Chivo Pets, the first free veterinary hospital for pets in Latin America.
It’s a meaningful move that places animal care within national policy and shows what coordinated public action can achieve.
Hopefully, it becomes an example that inspires similar efforts worldwide.
Compassionate treatment of animals shouldn’t be the exception anywhere.

Longest Residents Week: Ginger
Ginger came to us after being surrendered by her previous family, and for the last two years, the shelter has been the only home she’s known.
She’s full of life and has energy to spare.
The shelter isn’t where Ginger is meant to spend her life. She needs room to run, people to love, and a place where she can simply be herself.
Behind all that excitement is a sweet, affectionate dog who’s been waiting far too long for a second chance. We know her forever family is out there. We just need them to find her.

Longest Residents Week: Perla
Sometimes we know every detail of a dog’s story.
Other times, all we know is when they arrived.
Perla came to us two years ago, and the rest of her past remains a mystery. We don’t know what she experienced before finding her way here, but we do know who she is now: a playful companion with a confident presence.
Every day, she continues to greet life with the same personality that makes her so easy to love. She’s ready for adventures, rowdy or quiet afternoons, and everything in between with a family of her own.
Her past may be unknown, but her future doesn’t have to be.
Sometimes all it takes is one person seeing the right post at the right time.

Longest residents week: Jon
Jon has spent almost his entire life waiting.
He came to us as one of Lyanna’s puppies after she was rescued from the beach.
One by one, his siblings found homes.
Now, only Jon remains. He has watched his brothers and sisters leave while he stayed behind, growing up in a shelter instead of a home.
There’s nothing flashy about Jon. He’s simply a quiet reminder that not every wonderful dog gets noticed when they should. For almost three years, he’s waited for someone to choose him.
His family has grown smaller with every adoption. His siblings are gone. His mom is still here. And so is he.
Maybe the next person to walk through our doors won’t pass him by.
Maybe that person is reading this right now.

Longest Residents Week: Lyanna
Three years ago, Lyanna was found on a beach, raising puppies alongside another mother dog.
They cared for their litter in a combined manner, doing everything they could to keep them safe.
When rescuers arrived, Lyanna was terrified. She had spent her life learning that people were something to fear.
Eventually, she made it to ADLA with her puppies.
Lyanna is still here.
She remains shy and cautious around new people, but the frightened dog who arrived isn’t the same dog today. With patience and time, she’s learned to trust familiar faces and enjoy affection from the people she knows.
For almost three years, Lyanna has been waiting for someone willing to see past her fears and give her the chance she deserves.

We continue our Longest Residents Week with Brody.
When Brody arrived at ADLA, he was just a puppy: only six months old.
Brody had suffered severe burns across his tail, shoulders, and side. His injuries were extensive, painful, and impossible to ignore.
The damage to his tail was so severe that veterinarians had no choice but to amputate about three inches from the tip. Even as a young puppy, Brody faced surgeries, wound care, and a long healing process that no dog should ever have to experience.
But Brody healed.
He has spent over two years waiting for a family of his own. While puppies his age came and went, Brody stayed behind.
Now, he’s hoping someone will finally see what we’ve always seen: a survivor with a heart full of love and a future that deserves to be brighter than his past.

Longest Residents Week Feature:
Risita & Machito
Risita and Machito arrived at ADLA together on a rainy day, scared, uncertain, and unsure of what the future would hold. Though they shared the same journey to safety, their paths since then have looked very different.
Risita slowly discovered that the world wasn’t as frightening as he once believed. Day by day, he grew more confident, more trusting, and slowly more willing to embrace new experiences.
Machito’s journey has been quieter.
While Risita has found some of his confidence, Machito has continued to take life one small step at a time. He thrives in calm environments where he feels safe and understood.
Every day, Machito shows us progress. Every day, he reminds us that healing doesn’t happen on a schedule.
Both Risita and Machito have spent far too long waiting for a family of their own. They may have started their journeys side by side on a rainy day, but now they’re each hoping for the same thing: a place to call home and someone to love them exactly as they are.
