The impact of the Iran–US war is now reaching everyday life in India.

The Government of India has invoked the Essential Commodities Act, 1955 to regulate LPG supply and prevent hoarding during potential shortages.

Under this system, domestic LPG supply will be prioritized over commercial use, which could affect restaurants, cafes and canteens that rely heavily on LPG.

India consumes about 31–32 million tonnes of LPG annually, but produces only around 12 million tonnes, importing the rest from countries such as United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.

Since 88–90 percent of LPG in India is used by households, ensuring domestic supply has become the government’s priority. Reports from Chennai suggest some restaurants are already struggling with limited LPG supplies.

The situation shows how global conflicts can quickly affect energy supply and daily life.
