Petro y la urgencia de la cordura
El poder cambia y al presidente Gustavo Petro, sí que lo cambió su paso por la Casa de Nariño. El Petro que llegó al poder hace cuatro años es muy distinto al que va a salir el 7 de agosto. El de hoy tiene más pelo, pero poco le queda de ese talante que le permitió leer el país y materializar la voluntad de cambio, acometiendo reformas sociales que por primera vez combatieron la inequidad. Lo mismo se puede decir de ese Petro digno y transparente, que fue capaz de decirle a la fiscalía que investigara a su hijo Nicolas y a su hermano Juan Fernando con todo el peso de la ley, cuando estallaron los primeros escándalos de corrupción que hasta hoy comprometen a varios miembros de su familia. De ese Petro estadista, disruptor, que incomodaba al establecimiento con su fuerza política y no con insultos, no queda ni la sombra.

Que a mujeres que votan por proyectos autoritarios les aterre que en USA ya estén cuestionando el derecho al voto de las mujeres solo confirma la enorme disonancia cognitiva que movilizó su voto.

Aquí votaron por un tipo que propone una teocracia militar en Colombia y la llama abiertamente "Patria Milagro"; que basó su campaña en "la familia tradicional"; que sigue los mismos pasos del movimiento MAGA; que llamó "Arca de Noé" a su empalme dirigido por un pastor fanático; que está nombrando a fundamentalistas religiosos y conspiranoicos en mineducación y minexterior.

Honestamente, ¿qué esperan que pase?

I just arrived in Xinjiang for our family holiday and the one thing that immediately strikes me is that, so far, there seems to be virtually no foreign visitors (other than myself).

We're in one of THE most touristic spot in the entire region, the central bazaar in Urumqi (which has great food, by the way, offering full refunds if the food doesn't taste good, see picture 👇), and it's fully packed but only with local Uyghurs and visiting Chinese tourists - not a single foreigner around!

This is pretty crazy to me: there's so much being said about Xinjiang but obviously people don't bother coming here to check things with their own eyes. Despite there being absolutely zero restrictions to do so: as a French man I can even stay here 30 days visa-free, I just need to book a flight and show up, that's it 🤷‍♂️

I know I sound like a broken record on this but that's the biggest illness affecting commentary on China: people simply speak about it in the abstract without engaging with the reality of the place.

Durante el boom de materias primas de los 2000, los gobiernos del PT en Brasil, el kirchnerismo en Argentina, el chavismo en Venezuela, el MAS en Bolivia y el correísmo en Ecuador tuvieron recursos históricos. Redujeron la pobreza. Ampliaron el consumo. Crearon una nueva clase media.
Pero no cambiaron quién controla los medios, el capital financiero ni la narrativa cultural. No industrializaron. Siguieron dependiendo de vender petróleo, soja y minerales al exterior. Cuando los precios cayeron, el dinero se acabó — y con él, la base política.
Lo más paradójico: esa nueva clase media que emergió gracias al Estado comenzó a adoptar la ideología de las élites. Sin educación política, el ascenso social se reinterpretó como puro mérito propio. Y ese sector terminó votando por Milei, por de La Espriella, por Kast, por cualquier figura que prometiera "menos Estado" y "mano dura" — exactamente las políticas que los habrían mantenido en la pobreza.

El patrón se repite: Bolivia, Brasil, Ecuador, Argentina, Colombia, Chile. La izquierda gana, reduce la pobreza, pierde el poder, y la derecha más radical del ciclo anterior regresa con más fuerza que nunca.
Como advertía Gramsci hace un siglo: tomar el gobierno no es lo mismo que tomar el poder. Mientras la derecha controle los medios, el sistema financiero y la cultura, cualquier victoria progresista será temporal.
El progresismo que solo reparte dinero sin democratizar el poder real está condenado a ser devorado por los monstruos que se negó a desmantelar.

The UN's latest Children and Armed Conflict report has found Israeli forces were the biggest perpetrators of verified grave violations against children globally, and Israeli armed and security forces were responsible for one in four of all verified violations in 2025.

And these figures are just the tip of the iceberg, representing only those cases the UN was able to document, record and verify.
