@the_antrik@diannew314159@elfie111 @ValentinaFantoz @Sameye1@elonmusk@PPathole So you're claiming that the Moon being 1/6 the gravity and having no atmosphere to provide wind resistance is a negligible difference...? How does that make any sense?
@the_antrik@diannew314159@elfie111 @ValentinaFantoz @Sameye1@elonmusk@PPathole I don't see how when the fuel then needs to be shipped to orbit, rather than harvested from lunar ice and separated into liquid hydrogen and oxygen via electrolysis.
@the_antrik@diannew314159@elfie111 @ValentinaFantoz @Sameye1@elonmusk@PPathole It could then be vastly more efficient to use giant rockets like the Sea Dragon to ship components to the Moon, to be easily assembled in low gravity by the moon base, then fueled with harvested propellant. It could then carry >6x the mass for the same fuel as an earth launch.
@the_antrik@diannew314159@elfie111 @ValentinaFantoz @Sameye1@elonmusk@PPathole No idea how you reach that conclusion from your own link. A vessel heading to Mars from the Moon could be far larger or need to carry far less fuel than a vessel launched from earth, which requires a significant amount of fuel just to reach orbit.
@the_antrik@diannew314159@elfie111 @ValentinaFantoz @Sameye1@elonmusk@PPathole ...but a colony would be a completely enclosed system. The atmosphere is useless to earth life, as there's so little pressure that liquid immediately boils off much as it does in complete vacuum. CO2 scrubbers are already needed to pick up the excess from exhalation.
@the_antrik@diannew314159@elfie111 @ValentinaFantoz @Sameye1@elonmusk@PPathole A self sustaining colony is achievable on either with comparable infrastructure.
I wonder how that makes me ignorant as I'm surprised you've not heard the concept of making use of the Moon's resources for fuel, and 1/6th gravity for construction and launches.
@the_antrik@diannew314159@elfie111 @ValentinaFantoz @Sameye1@elonmusk@PPathole Dude, lunar ice has carbon in it. Mars' diffuse carbon might be helpful in some far off scifi future where it can be terraformed, but it's useless for an enclosed habitat. Surface pressure is a tiny fraction of earth and there's no magnetosphere to shield from solar radiation.
@the_antrik@diannew314159@elfie111 @ValentinaFantoz @Sameye1@elonmusk@PPathole Bc emergencies couldn't happen...? Why are you ignoring how much easier it'd be to send and construct the initial colony? Not only is the moon be a simpler undertaking but it can serve as a low g launch pad. We're nowhere near a colony on Mars, much less a self sustaining one.
@the_antrik@diannew314159@elfie111 @ValentinaFantoz @Sameye1@elonmusk@PPathole Lmao what
The infrastructure required is comparable, food would be grown in hydroponics, and there are millions of tons of lunar ice that can be turned into liquid rocket fuel through electrolysis. I have no idea what you're talking about.
@the_antrik@diannew314159@elfie111 @ValentinaFantoz @Sameye1@elonmusk@PPathole Which part of my explanation about how it can't happen on Mars if it can't be done on the moon where a permanent base can be constructed with far greater ease and where an emergency has a chance of being assisted with do you not understand
@the_antrik@diannew314159@elfie111 @ValentinaFantoz @Sameye1@elonmusk@PPathole And if you can't do it when emergency supplies take 3 days to travel, you can't do it if emergency supplies take 7 months.
Hyping up Mars is a grift. There isn't an ounce of reality in it.
@the_antrik@diannew314159@elfie111 @ValentinaFantoz @Sameye1@elonmusk@PPathole It's far more possible than Mars. It's 3 days to get to the Moon, comms near instantaneous. It's 7 months to get to Mars, and over 20 minutes for communication each way. 1 big issue on Mars = certain death. Colonies on either would need to be similarly built & pressurized.
@the_antrik@diannew314159@elfie111 @ValentinaFantoz @Sameye1@elonmusk@PPathole That's not how engineering on that scale works, you don't just wing it. If Elon was honest about this goal, he would try to establish a moon base first. Pushing constantly for Mars is just a grift.
@J_A_Burner@PebMet1@MarcTheBulll@elonmusk@PPathole Fed started printing during Trump. Biden BBB plan got torched. We can't get anything done in our own country, but somehow we're going to establish a permanent Mars base? Pfft nothing more than a grift.
@T_0ne_thousand@Mike_ETH_@PPathole@elonmusk Then aim for a permanent moon base. The lag time for aid to Mars is too long & costly. We know we can at least land on the moon and ship supplies/materials there and back. A moon base would provide better technical knowledge for Mars.
Pushing for Mars is just a grift.
@YutaRyu84@jamran55@BCorgi12@newsmax They quite literally check against the rolls of voters' registration to confirm identity. How do you people think voting works where there's no ID requirement or before licenses for a thing? Voting without mass fraud was just impossible before drivers licenses?
