@JCherryGEL@LisaJBryant ECEC is a specialization that is unique the bottom line is unskilled labour roles earn more than Educators who hold a min tertiary qualification Mandatory responsibilities under the law & carry a huge responsibility caring for & educating our youngest citizens
@doreen_blyth No morning breaks was a common occurrence pre Covid. Yet another example of the industrial abuse Educators are subjected to in a profession that is undervalued and often micro managed
@caz54552483@LisaJBryant@ACECQA While the penalties for compliance breaches are designated in the regulations to the positions of Nominated Supervisor and Approved Provider no employee is free from potential litigation if an incident causes harm and they are seen to fail in their responsibilities
A lot of people going to the Albanese government’s Jobs and Skills Summit and related events will only be able to go because early childhood Educators are supporting them and taking care of their families on the day. @AlboMP
An Approved Provider advisory organisation has stated that the staff shortage doesn't exist. Educators just don't want to work the hrs any more sighting Covid as the cause for the change in attitudes and going as far as justifying the $23hr pay rate.
Groundhog Day!
How many more times will we see this story and no action?
⬆️ Increase wages.
⬆️Increase training options.
⬆️ Increase respect and support for the profession and the sector.

Real action for real change now. The sector has been crumbling for decades our workforce is depleted and hemorrhaging professionals We are a profession in crisis
@JCherryGEL A real national action plan needs an urgent wages stage, and a timeline on the structural issues - Educators need to know how long they need to wait. We need to give them a reason to stay.
@LisaJBryant Simple economics Lisa. Wages make up 60-75% of ECEC costs so main driver of costs. Most Goodstart educators just got a 5.6% pay rise so that has to be funded. Record vacancies & COVID absences also add to costs.
5 nights a week this happens. Can you imagine how draining this is when every day you know that there are too few Teachers and Educators to cover? Staff who waited for EC to be fixed, waited too long and left. How many will make the decision to leave this week?
@BOConnorMP@AlisterHenskens@GayleTierney@sueellery@ChrisSteelMLA Hopeully with a focus on prioritizing quality delivery of training packages by reputable providers to ensure comprehensive acquisition of knowledge and skills Too many workers and employers are being let down by inadequate training and unreputable providers
Professional wages and conditions are critical to attracting and retaining a skilled and qualified workforce. The workforce is the foundation to quality practices and improving outcomes for children.
'The most significant challenge will be ensuring early childhood educators are paid properly & treated as professionals.'
"They’re going to have to do something to stabilise the bleeding of the workforce. Turnover is the enemy of quality” @ThriveByFiveAu CEO @JayWeatherill says.
@AlboMP Our profession looks forward to a Better Future for #Education & Care A future of wages reflective of a critical professional workforce A future that attracts & retains highly skilled #educators A future for affordable & accessible quality early learning for all #children
We join @child_australia in supporting @SNAICC 's call to remove The Activity Test which unfairly disadvantages our most vulnerable children from accessing high quality education and care
We support @SNAICC’s call to remove the Activity Test, because NO child should ever be excluded from engaging in high quality education and care.
➡️ Policy contradictions - childcare has an activity test which creates barriers, but schools struggle with children's attendance 🤔
It's not just rural kids who cannot access speech therapy or occupation therapy Due to inadequate delivery of qualifications by the time children are flagged referred and then sit on waiting lists for 12 - 18 mths the opportunity for early intervention has deprived many children
Imagine if instead of funding families to obtain not existent therapists, there was instead a speech therapist and an occupational therapist funded at every childcare centre. https://t.co/mlWKzPPoYE
