The Prophet (PBUH) said:“Fasting the day of Ashura, I hope from Allah, will expiate the sins of the previous year.” (Muslim)

Ashura marks the day Allah saved Prophet Musa (Moses) and his people from Pharaoh. The Prophet (PBUH) fasted this day out of gratitude and encouraged us to do the same.
