On this day in 1997, a huge storm off the coast of Cornwall pushed 62 containers off the cargo ship Tokio Express. One was filled with nearly 5 million pieces of Lego, much of it sea-themed. The pieces are still being found today, 27 years later.

A Lego letter to parents from 1974.

Here's the letter transcribed:

"To Parents

The urge to create is equally strong in all children. Boys and girls.

It's the imagination that counts. Not skill. You build whatever comes into your head, the way you want it. A bed or a truck.

A dolls house or a spaceship.
A lot of boys like dolls houses.

They're more human than spaceships. A lot of girls prefer spaceships. They're more exciting than dolls houses. The most important thing is to put the right material in their hands and let them create whatever appeals to them.”

Lego has no military related sets because the inventor's policy was to not want to make war seem like child's play.

@hematocritico @GQSpain Es un problema generalizado en todas las cadenas... Lo que hizo @antena3com con @legomasterses fue vergonzoso. Y la guinda fue la final, que acabo a las 3.30 de la madrugada😖

You can earn a set amount of points per set by scanning QR codes under the new LEGO Insiders program – but is it worth it?
