ICYMI | The AFP, together with the United States Armed Forces, Japan Ground Self-Defense Force and Royal Canadian Navy demonstrated synchronized maritime strike operations during the Joint Task Force Maritime Strike under the PH-US Balikatan Exercise 41-2026 at Paoay, Ilocos Norte on May 6, 2026.

The Maritime Strike featured the successful engagement of the decommissioned BRP Quezon (PS70) using Japan’s Type 88 Surface-to-Ship Missile System — marking its first-ever use in Exercise Balikatan and highlighting the growing interoperability and credible defense capabilities of ally and partner forces.

From HIMARS and fighter aircraft to tanks, artillery, helicopters, and unmanned systems, the joint exercise demonstrated combined strength, interoperability, and readiness to defend our shores and uphold peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific.
