In light of the recent devastating fire on New Year's Eve fire at Le Constellation bar, have you checked you have the following?
📄Current Fire Risk Assessment
🚪Trained staff & clear exits
🧑🤝🧑Occupancy control
🔥Fire-resistant decorations
Don't wait for a tragedy to act.
📦Christmas Stock📦
Businesses will likely have a large amount of stock at this time of year, but it's important to help keep your customers & colleagues safe by ensuring you:
🏃♀️Don't block or obstruct escape routes and exits
🔥Don't leave cardboard next to ignition sources
🧯Fire Extinguishers 🧯
🤔They can be used to fight a small fire if staff are expected to do so & suitably trained.
🏃♀️Otherwise, if necessary, they should only be used to aid escape.
Most importantly, get out of the building safely. You can replace objects, not people.
🎄 Christmas Lights 🎄
Here's a couple of easy ways to reduce the risk of fire with your lovely lights:
🔋 If possible, opt for battery powered lights
🚦 Ensure they're tangle free
⚡️ Don't overload sockets
🔌 Don't plug an extension lead into another extension lead

BBQ's 🌭🍔
The sun is out! It may be tempting have a BBQ on the balcony, but it could end in disaster like this picture below. 😢
Please think about where you have a BBQ & never leave it unattended. Hot dogs & burgers are tasty, but not worth the risk to your home & lives. 🔥
This was the aftermath of a BBQ fire at a block of flats in #Croydon#thisweek. It shows why you should never BBQ on your balcony.
Never leave a BBQ unattended, be careful where you position it and keep it away from anything flammable 🔥 https://t.co/3HbaGvlMxW
✋Stay Put Policy
Some blocks of flats may have a Stay Put policy - check the communal areas for evacuation procedure information. If you're unsure, contact your management company.
A Stay Put policy reduces the risk of someone inhaling toxic smoke while trying to evacuate.
Here's a link from Lancashire FRS for useful information on who needs a PEEP and what should be included in the plan:

👥The most common characteristics covered are:
- Pregnancy
- Hearing / Visual Impairment
- Physical / Learning Disability

📦 Have stock & packaging from the January sales in your premises?
🚪 It's tempting to leave it lying around when you're so busy, but make sure it's away from ignition sources & your means of escape are clear at all times to keep staff and customers safe.

💡 If you're using last year's fairy lights, ensure they're free from damage & in good working order before plugging in.
♻️ If old lights aren't working, dispose of them in the correct way. Contact your council if you're not sure where you can bin them.

🚒 And that's space to get through when we're driving!
🤔 Think, 'Could a fire engine fit past?'
❗ Seconds spent trying to squeeze past can slow down our response to an emergency, so #ThinkFireEngine!
