Alligator Alcatraz may be closing, but accountability cannot end at the gates.
Closing a detention camp does not erase the suffering, abuse, and corruption that happened inside.

Another week, another Circle of Protection in Miramar. โ๐ฝ
Every Wednesday we stand with immigrant families facing ICE check-ins, detention, and uncertainty. We bring water, food, legal resources, and solidarity, reminding people they are not alone.
New analysis suggests more than 100,000 children have been separated from their parents during the Trump administrationโs immigration crackdown. Roughly three-quarters of those children are likely U.S. citizens.

The U.S. House of Representatives last month voted to extend TPS for Haitians for three more years. The Senate should now do the right thing and schedule it for a vote.

โAlligator Alcatrazโ is fueled by 287(g) agreements that turn local police into ICE agents.
Mayor Eileen Higgins promised to end 287(g), but has taken no action.

Last week, students and allies spoke at the Florida Department of Education meeting to defend access to higher education for all. Proposed rules would bar undocumented students from Floridaโs 28 public colleges. We will keep fighting for every studentโs right to learn.
Nearly $1 billion in Florida emergency funds was diverted to build โAlligator Alcatraz.โ
Public money is funding cruelty, neglect, and human rights abuses in the Everglades.
We demand accountability.

The City of Miami is considering a $450 million public safety bond while continuing its 287(g) agreement with ICE.
Mayor Eileen Higgins
promised to revisit this agreement during her campaign, but has taken no action.
Real public safety means all residents can live without fear.
At a public event this morning, @EileenHigginsFL was asked when she would keep her promise to end 287(g).
Instead of answering, she referred the young woman to her staff and had us removed.
Immigrant communities deserve action, not excuses.

On Motherโs Day, we gathered outside #AlligatorAlcatraz to honor immigrant mothers. After exposing this detention camp, its possible closure confirms what we said from the beginning: it should never have existed. But closing it does not erase the need for accountability.
Guarantees prohibiting immigration enforcement activity before and during World Cup events should at the very least be formalized in writing and itโs embarrassing that FIFA and its host committees are so resistant in dong the bare minimum to protect fans.

It increasingly looks like the $60 million in public funds Miami-Dade gave to FIFA was a bad deal for taxpayers, and the promised tourism boom is not materializing due to fears of immigration enforcement, the war in Iran spiking travel costs, and constant price gouging by FIFA.
Florida Highway Patrol is disproportionately targeting agricultural workers and communities in Palm Beach County when conducting immigration enforcement.

This Motherโs Day, we honor immigrant mothers in Miramar, mothers who continue to hold families together through fear, detention, and separation. ๐ธ

Today in Miramar, two ambulances arrived while families waited outside.
Miramar is not just a check-in center. People are being detained and processed there for days under deeply concerning conditions, according to families and community reports. @DWStweets
